White Potato
Question: Could white stool also be caused by eating potato soup? I've researched a little online through my cell phone.. Yesterday evening I had a large portion of very white potato soup, largest meal of the day. This morning my stool was so pale it was nearly white. Is this under any circumstaces normal?
Answer: I don't know, but I will try it and get back to you.
Question: When buds appear on the white potato, what does it means? I have potatoes that i forgot about. When i open the bag, some had white buds growing out of them. Does that mean that they are bad. I asked my sister, she said that when the potatoes are soft and discolored, then they are bad. I just threw the ones away, that had the buds. Are they still good to eat?
Answer: Yes they are. You just peel them off with the rest of the potato skin. Potatoes have 'eyes'. That is where the buds start growing. If you planted them in a garden and watered them, you would begin to see plants growing. Before long (when the plant dies out) you would be able to dig up more potatoes! Homegrown potatoes are so good and sweet! You should try it sometime. You would probably not go back to storebought potatoes!
Question: Is a Yukon Gold potato a sweet potato or a white potato? I heard that sweet potatoes are healthier than white potatoes, but I don't like typical sweet potatoes. They are too sweet. I do like Yukon Gold potatoes which are sweeter. Do they count?
Answer: No, the nutrition value of Yukon Gold potatoes would be the same as any white potato. Sweet potatoes and yams are healthier because of their orange color. All orange vegetables contain beta-carotene.
Question: Nutritional difference between sweet potato and white potato? Okay, please tell me the nutritional differences of sweet potatoes and white potatoes? My Mom has started some diet that calls for white potatoes and she thinks it might be healthier to use sweet ones.
Answer: "Use your tastes to help you decide which to serve as a side dish. While the sweet potato has a sweeter flavor than its plain counterpart and slightly more calories, it also has almost double the filling fiber and more beta-carotene, which boots immunity and helps build bones. No matter which you favor, though, you're getting almost no fat and lots of nutrients. Both potatoes and sweet potatoes provide potassium, for example, which is important for muscle function, plus many other vitamins and minerals. Just be sure to leave on the skin when you're eating white potatoes—that's where you'll find most the fiber.

Question: What is a white sweet potato? I saw this potato it said it was a white sweet potato what the heck is that
Answer: The first young lady is right it is a Caribbean variety of the Yam family, I am a former chef and work in Jamaica and it is used for both savoury and sweet dishes.
In savoury it used like a regular potato, in stews, a traditional "Rundown" which is a fish stew made with coconut mlik and other root veg, they are boiled and served like white potatos in the US and Canada also.
In sweet things like Sweet Potato pone a pudding like cake made with them molasses and spices, mash into a pudding with cassava, like tapioca but thicker and denser, fried and sprinkled with sugar and cinnimon, grated and used in Jamaican Christmas cake and a fritter with mashed bananas.
They resemble a north american yam/sweet potato in shape, but the skin is more reddish then orange and the flesh is white and sticky.

Question: how to boil white potatoes for potato salad? I need step-by-step instructions on how to boil white Maine potatos (peel first, time, etc?.) for potato salad.
Answer: There are different ways to prepare potatoes for potato salad.
You can leave the skins off or on.
You can cube or slice them before boiling or after.
You can leave them slightly firm so they hold their shape in the salad, or you can boil them tender so they become mushy in the salad. I have a friend who actually mashes them for potato salad.
I prefer to take the skins off and cube them before boiling. I boil them until I can pierce a cube easily with a fork, but not so that it crumbles all apart. When they reach that point, I put them in the sink and run cold water on them until they are cold. I then set them aside to drain in a strainer while I assemble all my other ingredients. Then I put them all together. It's best if you let it all chill together in the refrigerator for a few hours so that the flavors come together.
Of course if you are making a hot salad, then you wouldn't chill the potatoes.
And now I'm hungry for potato salad! LOL!
Question: sweet potato pie with white sweet potatoes? So, I went to the store and got sweet potatoes, I peeled them today and was shocked that the inside was white and not orange. Will I still be able to make sweet potato pie with them? I'm kinda upset they aren't what I expected. I asked a friend who bakes a lot and she said I could make pie with them, it will just be lighter, but I wanted some more opinions. Thank you.
At the farm market I got them from the label just said Jersey sweet potatoes?
Answer: Are you sure they are sweet potatoes & not sweet white potatoes? They should be just fine in a pie, but of course it won't look like a traditional sweet potato pie. Use dark brown sugar instead of light to add some depth to the color.
add: I saw your additional info & I think these are just sweet white potatoes & not sweet potatoes. I've never baked with them, but trust your friend & give it a try - that's what cooking is all about - trial & error. Good Luck!
Question: What is the only essential vitamin not found in the white potato?

Question: White Rice or Potato? Which is better for you if trying to lose weight? I cook for more than just one person and my family is pretty used to the meat/starch/veggie kind of dinner... I am trying to lose weight but don't want to really ruin their dinner. In general if I were to make my starch of these two - white rice or a potato - which is more beneficial to my cause? I know brown rice or a sweet potato would be better... but they do not like either really. Just want to know between the white rice and the potato which is the better choice? Thank you!
Answer: Potatoe. A baked potato is an exceptionally healthful low calorie, high fiber food that offers significant protection against cardiovascular disease and cancer.
Potatoes are a very good source of vitamin C, a good source of vitamin B6, copper, potassium, manganese, and dietary fiber.
Potatoes also contain a variety of phytonutrients that have antioxidant activity. Among these important health-promoting compounds are carotenoids, flavonoids, and caffeic acid, as well as unique tuber storage proteins, such as patatin, which exhibit activity against free radicals.

Question: Why does mold grow on white bread faster than wheat and potato bread? I am doing a science fair project and i need help knowing why white bread grows mold faster than wheat and potato bread. I have white wonderbread, dutch country potato bread, and dutch country wheat bread. Please help!!!
Answer: Most bread purchased at the grocery store does have anti mold growth added. White bread would be more likely to have it.
Wheat bread is actually more likely to grow mold as it has the whole grain where the mold spores are.
You need to ask yourself what is the age of each of the kinds of bread? Was any contamination possible? There are mold spores in the air, cold be on dishes, etc.Was the white bread handled more? Did each have the same amount of water, light, time, temperature, etc
One possible answer to your question is that white bread has more sugar in it and starch that is more readily digestible for the mold. That i why it is not as good for us, as well as the fact that whol grains give us more fiber.
