Sweet Bay

Question: why have all the leaves fallen off our brand new sweet bay magnolia trees? We just purchased 2 eight ft. tall Sweetbay magnolias. They were planted on the south west corner of our house according to a landscaping plan we had drawn up. Within three weeks now, most of the leaves have fallen off. The trees look so sad. Is this normal for transplanted magnolias? They were being kept in a hot house when we bought them. It's spring here in kansas, so not too warm or too cold as of yet.

Answer: The change from hot house to the outside may have been a big shock from them, or they may have dried out temporarily. With care you will probably find that the leaves grow back. As mentioned do not fertilize. Buy some seaweed extract (Seasol or another brand), fantastic tonic, that prevents transplant shock and encourages root growth. Every time you plant new plants water in with this. Don't overwater but make sure plants do not dry out and water deeply as they are large plants. Plants can loose their leaves as a survival means, you will probably find with attention the leaves will return.

Answer: Yes................Bay Leaves come from the sweet bay or laurel tree. The elliptical leaves of both trees are green, glossy, and grow up to 3 inches long. nfd♥

Question: my sweet bay tree has small brown legions on the leaves but they are very faint. what is wrong? when i bought the tree there were also a lot of millilpedes in the pot soil. What shouldi do to take the best care of this plant

Answer: If you are not organic try one of the many pesticides on offer. Then give your bay a really good feed with general purpose fertilizer and remember to water.

Answer: It may need some extra fertilizer. Use a fertilizer with a high middle number (0-10-10, for example).Spread it under your tree, out to the edge of the branch line. Water well. Good Luck!!

Question: sweet bay is it safe for rabbits? i need to know if my rabbits eat the fallen leaves from my bay tree will it harm them.

Answer: i dont think itll harm him at all. but did u find the rabbit or buy him? if hes storeboght, u probly want 2 buy food 4 him cuzz in the store hes used 2 the storebought food and animals are realy bad at changin diets or else itll hurt their stomach, i think

Answer: I'm on the left coast and our Albertsons usually has them on sale for $9.99 a pound. They could go as high as $15.99 when they're out of season and not on sale.
