Nosebleed
Question: NoseBleed!!!!!!? I had 2 nosebleed in 5 days!!! and 5 days ago I had my first one. And it was after I wokeup, I just wokeup and my nose was bleeding. My friend said it was because of the weather because its hot. I dont get it though last year was hot and I didnt get 1 nosebleed! This is my second in 5 days! and it comes out my left nostril. It weird because its right after I wake up!
Answer: your sinuses are dried up and nasal passages. Any drug store and /or grocery store carries "Saline" nose spray. Use before bed, sit up 10 minutes after using it before laying down and it should clear up. It's just because we breath thru our noses and hot air is usally dry. Also humidifiers help, or even a very hot moist washcloth held 2" from your nose-just breath in the moist air untill washcloth cools down. You will see a big difference.
Question: Nosebleed? I've been getting nosebleeds with strange frequency lately - on Thursday (day before yesterday) I got a heavy one in the morning. Same on Friday morning (yesterday) and today morning (Saturday). I also got a very heavy one tonight.
They were totally unexpected - I haven't been using any medications, no strange perfumes (haha), nothing new and out of the ordinary.
Any ideas as to what caused them?
Answer: Nosebleed

Nosebleed At A Glance
Why do people get nosebleeds?
The nose is a part of the body rich in blood vessels (vascular) and is situated in a vulnerable position as it protrudes on the face. As a result, trauma to the face can cause nasal injury and bleeding. The bleeding may be profuse, or simply a minor complication. Nosebleeds can occur spontaneously when the nasal membranes dry out and crack. This is common in dry climates, or during the winter months when the air is dry and warm from household heaters. People are more susceptible to bleeding if they are taking medications which prevent normal blood clotting [warfarin (Coumadin), aspirin, or any anti–inflammatory medication]. In this situation, even a minor trauma could result in significant bleeding.
The incidence of nosebleeds is higher during the colder winter months when upper respiratory infections are more frequent, and the temperature and humidity fluctuate more dramatically. In addition, changes from a bitter cold outside environment to a warm, dry, heated home results in drying and changes in the nose which will make it more susceptible to bleeding. Nosebleeds also occur in hot dry climates with low humidity, or when there is a change in the seasons. The following factors predispose people to nosebleeds:
Infection
Trauma, including self–induced by nose picking
Allergic and non–allergic rhinitis
Hypertension (high blood pressure)
Use of blood thinning medications
Alcohol abuse
Less common causes include tumors and inherited bleeding problems

Question: What does a recurring nosebleed signal? I've had nosebleeds everyday for the past week. Me and my brother suffer from more than average occurences of nosebleeds, but it has never been this bad. Can someone help me either stop the nosebleed or suggest several possible causes?
I'm thinking its the dusty AC, I sleep next to the vent on my bunk bed, and the dust coupled with the dry air just irritate my nose.
But any more information would be appreciated.
Answer: As you mentioned, any extreme of temperature can cause spontaneous nose bleed.
Other medical causes like, nasal septal defects, blood vessel abnormalities within the nasal cavity and even a abnormal platelet count(low or high) all can contribute.
Nasal congestion and a harsh sneeze or blowing also can cause a nasal bleed. If, you think, it occurs spontaneously more than 2 times in a week, please do seek medical attention.
Hope, it helps,
Regards,
Question: What's the fastest way to stop a nosebleed? Because of my allergies, I get bad nosebleeds about twice a month when the winter season starts to come. Sometimes they can last half an hour or even longer, which can really disrupt my life.
Are there any home remedies that help stop a nosebleed faster?
Actually I hear that pinching your nose (in the topmost part you're able to pinch without being blocked by the bone) helps stop bleeding by applying pressure to the ruptured area. Holding it for about 5-10 minutes should help stop bleeding.
Answer: snort a small line of flour or corn starch if it is real bad (really).
The idea is to get it to clot quicker. Tilt back, breathe in thru the nose to help the clot form. pinching the nostrils shut just makes it bleed longer and a larger clot.
Or, you could try a tourniquet around the neck...(not really)
Question: How to prevent a nosebleed before it happens? Im going to Colorado for spring break and last time I went I kept getting nosebleeds from the high altitude. Is there any way to prevent a nosebleed before it happens?
Answer: Keep your nose moisturized, because most bloody noses are caused by excessively dry skin inside the nose.
Use some vaseline, or Bioron ointment (or some other kind of ointment) and either use your pinky or a q-tip,. and whipe it in your nose. By the way, with choosing which ointment, petroleum based ointments will last longer, but I suggest water based ointments, as petroleum can cause adverse health effects, long term that is.
Also, if bloody noses persist, you can get your nose caterized (when they block off the vessels to your nose by lasers or heat).
Good luck.
Question: What can happen from having a nosebleed EVERYDAY for roughly two minutes? My friend would like to know because she gets a nosebleed every day when she washes her face.
Answer: There's nothing serious that can happen to your friend. The most common cause is "picking" your nose. Let's call it cleaning your nose or rubbing your nose. Anyway, the most likely cause is breaking a blood vessel in the lining of the nose with your finger. There may be dilated blood vessels in the front part of the nose that is suspectible to this trauma. What your "friend" can do is get that part of the nose examined and if there are "broken blood vessels" there, she can have them cauterized.
Question: How did I randomly get a nosebleed without hurting myself? At school, I was talking to one of my friends when we were at lunch. I didn't get hurt at all and suddenly, she told me that my nose was bleeding and she was grossed out by it. I don't know how that happened since I didn't get hurt at all. How did I get a nosebleed without hurting myself?
Answer: Antihistamines and decongestants can dry the mucous lining of the nasal passages. Rubbing, scratching, or other trauma can easily cause bleeding in a dry nose. To lessen drying, minimize your use of those medications and keep your environment comfortably humidified. I hope this helps you. And good luck.
Question: What is the average amount of blood loss during a nosebleed? today i had a nosebleed for almost an hour. how much blood is lost when you have a nosebleed? just curious. thanks.
Answer: The amount of blood lost is normally less than a tablespoon, and only 5 to 10 percent of nosebleeds ever need a medic's attention.
Question: How do you tell if you have a posterior nosebleed? The other day I had a normal nosebleed and it went away in a couple of minutes. But for the past couple of days I've felt this liquid running down my throat, and I don't know whether it's blood from a posterior nosebleed or mucus from my sinuses. How do you tell? I took a light and looked at my throat for a few minutes but I don't see any blood.
Answer: saw no blood? well next time you feel it happening again, just swab with a q-tip, if you see nothing, then try hauking a lougue(or however you spell it) and if you only get mucus, theres your answer...but, if you still think something is wrong, or you do get blood....you need a doctors opinion..
Question: How often is too often to have a nosebleed? I have been getting a slight nosebleed about every 3 weeks for a couple of months. Always on the same side..Should I see a doctor?
Answer: Imsety made some good points. Before going to the doctor, invest in a Humidifier and see if that doesn't help. Just make sure you change the filters on those when they start to look dirty.
The Humidifier helped our son who used to get nose bleeds several times a week at night while he was asleep. They tapered off and stopped after we starting using the humidifier.
Take care and be well.
Question: Why did I get a nosebleed while washing my face? I was rinsing my face from the soap and all of a sudden I got a nosebleed..
About a month ago I went to a water park and water dropped down on me and I got a nosebleed there, too.
Why am I getting nosebleeds from this?
Answer: It can be a number of things that can cause this...
1..could be chlorine allergies (too much in water), either caused swelling and bleeding
2.. Nasal infection and the water softened the scab
3.. Nasal dried due to cold weather or dry air
if your going use a nasal rise, Use the Pot- Netti from RiteAide or Savon drugs with the pack that come with it unless your allergic to Sodium Bicarbonate (it's doesn't burn)
*** This one burned like running Hot sauce they my entire nasal. It hurt like hell but it worked for me.
I used the same Pot-Netti to kill a sinus infection by using a little Hydrogen Peroxide 3% Not 35% and The rest water warm non chlorinated water from tap but bottled water.
I didn't ingested because i read that if peroxide enters the stomache i can cause DNA Damage and create stomach ulcers, and if you used it too much a mouth wash your tongue can start to look hairy and will disappear sometime after use.
rinsed with plain bottled water to wash it out after a few minutes.
Question: How do I stop a recurring nosebleed? I started getting a cold about 8 days ago and most of the symptoms are gone. The issue is that I still have a cough and a nosebleed a day which has happened once a day since the cold started. Is it odd to get nosebleeds this frequently? And is there anything to do about it?
Answer: I often get nosebleeds when I have a cold too... I just think it's because my nose is irritated (with all the sniffling/blowing that's going on). It sounds like you are almost over the cold, so the nosebleeds should go away soon. If not, you'll probably have to go to the doctor and have it cauterized. It's not a pleasant experience, they pretty much burn the inside of your nose, but it stops the nosebleed. I also get nosebleeds when the weather changes and gets dry, or when I change altitude quickly, so try not to do either of those things too...
Question: How does raw bacon work to stop a nosebleed? SOmeone told me her son had a teriible nosebleed. A nurse friend of her told her to put a piece on raw bacon in his nose....and it worked. Anyone know how this works?
Answer: The nitrates found in bacon (or sausage or bologna) will act as an astringent and slow bleeding. It may hurt though.
(silver nitrate is used in the ER setting)
Question: How do you stop a dog's nosebleed? My daughter is babysitting for a family who has a dog that has a nosebleed. The family is at a Jazz game and can't be reached. Short of taking the dog to the vet on an emergency visit, what can I do?
Deidra D. Why? This isn't my dog and I don't want to incur a huge vet bill without the owner's permission.
Answer: Get a clean cloth and hold it to the dog's nose, try to get him to be still and soothe him. If the bleeding does not stop in a few minutes then you do need to take the dog to the Vet. Can you call the dog's owners on a cell phone?
The dog can bleed to death if you are not careful.
Question: is it normal to have blood in your phlegm a week after a nosebleed? I seem to have small amounts of blood in my phlegm now, mostly in the mornings after a shower. I'm concerned because it has been a week since the nosebleed and seems abnormal. I've gone to the doctors and they say they can't do anything for it unless it's actively bleeding. [gushing nosebleed] Any suggestions/ideas?
Answer: Try keeping a humidifier going at all times. Keeping your sinus cavities moist will keep them from getting irritated, which causes bleeding.
Question: What is the best way to get rid of a nosebleed? for a few nights ive been having a nosebleed whats the st way to get ris of it with water or ice?
Answer: The flow of blood normally stops when the blood clots, which may be encouraged by direct pressure applied by pinching the soft fleshy part of the nose. This applies pressure to Little's area, the source of the majority of nose bleeds and promotes clotting. Pressure should be firm and be applied for at least 10 minutes while keeping the head in the neutral position and spitting out any blood which flows into the mouth. There is no benefit to pinching the bridge of the nose or to tilting the head backwards or forwards. Swallowing excess blood can irritate the stomach and cause vomiting. Application of an ice pack to the forehead or back of the neck or sucking an ice cube has seen widespread practice, but has been shown to not have any statistically significant effects on nasal mucosal blood flow. In the past, it was commonly thought that the ice would help by promoting constriction of local blood vessels and thus reducing blood flow to slow down the bleed. Do not pack the nose with tissues or gauze. NasalCEASE is a calcium alginate mesh that is inserted in the nasal cavity to accelerate coagulation
My son has bloody noses due to allergies drying out his nose. You could try the humidifier, that's probably the best thing. We put Ayr nose gel in his nose at night when he's having more problems with them. And if you keep having them, check with an ear, nose, and throat doctor. There may be a spot they could cauterize that may help(not in my son's case though). I've never seen the NasalCEASE so I don't know if that's available still. Check with a pharmacy and see if they can order it for you.
Question: How can I remove the nosebleed curse from my room? I mean 4 nosebleeds have occurred in my dorm room in the last 48 hours...wtf?! They haven't happened anywhere else. Is there any chant or exorcism type thing I can do to get this nosebleed spirit out of here?
By the way, I don't do coke if that's what you were thinking.
Answer: It could be dryness or heat - if you've turned on your heat because it's getting cold outside, consider getting a humidifier to counteract - or a slightly cheaper method, turn your heat down/crack a window. I had a friend who suffered from nosebleeds several times a day but it turns out that he was losing sleep and using huge amounts of caffeine to stay awake. He cut the caffeine, got more than 2 hours of sleep every 48 hours (I'm not exaggerating, he was an insomniac who loved to drink coffee) - and within a few weeks he was nosebleed free.
I suspect you weren't actually looking for a spell or a chant - but if you are, look in the mythology & folklore section for that sort of thing - people always seem to come up with good spells there. XD
Question: How long after a nosebleed will i be able to exercise again? Hey guys, just had a nosebleed, not a serous one lasted a minute or so, ive actually had a couple this week ive had a cold and felt pressure on my nose. but anyway, I really want to go running today as i do it for fitness, but should i leave it atleast 24 hours before doing activity or is it okay to just go and exercise now?
thanks guys
Answer: Ok i suggest 24 hours .has your cold cleared up ? and is it cold outside where u are living?
if ur cold hasn't cleared up do not go running
if it is cold outside do not go running
this could trigger another nose bleed
Question: how much blood is it normanl to lose during a nosebleed? i have had nosebleeds 2 or 3 times a day for the past 4 or five days. this last time, instead of using cloth or tissue to hold on my nose, i let the blood fall into a cup. there was almost a full cup when it finally finished! i am not joking. is it normal to lose that much during a nosebleed? this is happening daily now, and more than once. should i be worried?
Answer: That is too much blood. Seek medical advice immediately.
Link is to UK Government advice.
Question: Can constant coughing and headaches trigger a nosebleed? I was getting ready for school this morning and as I was getting out of the shower I wiped my nose and I had blood on the back of my hand.
I got a nosebleed for apparently no reason and it lasted for like 30 minutes, I also have anemia.
I have chronic cough and I cough so much I get headaches.
Could my coughing contributed to it?
A severe hot day?
I just woke up at like 6 in the morning and I got a nosebleed, a long nosebleed.
Answer: Dry air can trigger nose bleeds because it happens to me often since I was 5yrs old. Depending on how sever your cough and headaches are it's possible that you can rupture one of your nasal vessels and cause your nose to bleed.
