Mortal
Question: What is a list of the mortal sins that exist? For venial sins we go to purgatory, but for mortal we can be sent to hell. What are the mortal sins?
Answer: List of Mortal Sins:
The Catholic Cathechism gives in the Subject Index, on page 815, a list of "individual grave sins" which is obviously very icomplete. It does not include the Occult, sorcery, abortion, acts of homosexuality, stealing, lying, adultery... This is the list, in alphabetical order:
1- Anger, hatred:2302 By recalling the commandment, "You shall not kill,"93 our Lord asked for peace of heart and denounced murderous anger and hatred as immoral. Anger is a desire for revenge. "To desire vengeance in order to do evil to someone who should be punished is illicit," but it is praiseworthy to impose restitution "to correct vices and maintain justice."94 If anger reaches the point of a deliberate desire to kill or seriously wound a neighbor, it is gravely against charity; it is a mortal sin. The Lord says, "Everyone who is angry with his brother shall be liable to judgment."95 2303 Deliberate hatred is contrary to charity. Hatred of the neighbor is a sin when one deliberately wishes him evil. Hatred of the neighbor is a grave sin when one deliberately desires him grave harm. "But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven."96
2- Blasphemy: 2148 Blasphemy is directly opposed to the second commandment. It consists in uttering against God - inwardly or outwardly - words of hatred, reproach, or defiance; in speaking ill of God; in failing in respect toward him in one's speech; in misusing God's name. St. James condemns those "who blaspheme that honorable name [of Jesus] by which you are called."78 The prohibition of blasphemy extends to language against Christ's Church, the saints, and sacred things. It is also blasphemous to make use of God's name to cover up criminal practices, to reduce peoples to servitude, to torture persons or put them to death. The misuse of God's name to commit a crime can provoke others to repudiate religion. Blasphemy is contrary to the respect due God and his holy name. It is in itself a grave sin.79
3- Blasphemy agains the Holy Spirit: 1864 "Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven."136 There are no limits to the mercy of God, but anyone who deliberately refuses to accept his mercy by repenting, rejects the forgiveness of his sins and the salvation offered by the Holy Spirit.137 Such hardness of heart can lead to final impenitence and eternal loss.
4- Envy:
2539 Envy is a capital sin. It refers to the sadness at the sight of another's goods and the immoderate desire to acquire them for oneself, even unjustly. When it wishes grave harm to a neighbor it is a mortal sin: St. Augustine saw envy as "the diabolical sin."326 "From envy are born hatred, detraction, calumny, joy caused by the misfortune of a neighbor, and displeasure caused by his prosperity."327 2540 Envy represents a form of sadness and therefore a refusal of charity; the baptized person should struggle against it by exercising good will. Envy often comes from pride; the baptized person should train himself to live in humility: Would you like to see God glorified by you? Then rejoice in your brother's progress and you will immediately give glory to God. Because his servant could conquer envy by rejoicing in the merits of others, God will be praised.328
5- Malice: 1860 Unintentional ignorance can diminish or even remove the imputability of a grave offense. But no one is deemed to be ignorant of the principles of the moral law, which are written in the conscience of every man. The promptings of feelings and passions can also diminish the voluntary and free character of the offense, as can external pressures or pathological disorders. Sin committed through malice, by deliberate choice of evil, is the gravest.
6- Murder: 2268 The fifth commandment forbids direct and intentional killing as gravely sinful. The murderer and those who cooperate voluntarily in murder commit a sin that cries out to heaven for vengeance.68 Infanticide,69 fratricide, parricide, and the murder of a spouse are especially grave crimes by reason of the natural bonds which they break. Concern for eugenics or public health cannot justify any murder, even if commanded by public authority. 2269 The fifth commandment forbids doing anything with the intention of indirectly bringing about a person's death. The moral law prohibits exposing someone to mortal danger without grave reason, as well as refusing assistance to a person in danger. The acceptance by human society of murderous famines, without efforts to remedy them, is a scandalous injustice and a grave offense. Those whose usurious and avaricious dealings lead to the hunger and death of their brethren in the human family indirectly commit homicide, which is imputable to them.70 Unintentional killing is not morally imputable. But one is not exonerated from grave offense if, without proportionate reasons, he has

Question: Why put religious focus on our mortal lives if we live eternally? If God created humankind as eternal beings, why would our mortal lives even matter in the grand spectrum of things? What is the point of trying to be a certain way in a finite life for a God that has everything? Why strain ourselves to prove we are good enough for God?
Answer: That's quite a profound insight.
And I think this is why "surrender" turns out to be the preferred path of the Monks, Mystics, and Yogis.
Question: What is the difference between "mortal sin" and "venial sin"? I know venial is forgiveable, so do we start by comminting mortal sin and then once we ask for forgiveness it becomes a venial sin?
Answer: Both mortal and venial sins can be forgiven.
In some Christian traditions, most notably Catholicism but in several Protestant traditions as well, a mortal sin is an intentional sin where you make a distinct choice to step out of God's grace. It is distinguished from venial sins, which are the kinds of sins you commit out of simple weakness.
"Weakness" is not an excuse, however. For example, a man can't go cheat on his wife then just say that the woman was irresistible. No matter how strong the temptation is, the act itself is surely a deliberate one. Examples of venial sins would be a man's eyes habitually wandering, or a woman treating someone cruelly because it's the wrong time of month, etc.
For churches that make this kind of distinction (we Lutherans do not), venial sins will not cause a Christian to fall out of grace (i.e., be in danger of going to Hell). However, there will be consequences to these sins. Protestants believe these consequences terminate at death; Catholics believe they continue on in Purgatory.
All churches that make this distinction believe that mortal sins separate you from your salvation. For certainty of salvation to be restored, mortal sins must be confessed, in Catholicism to a priest to receive absolution, or in Protestantism to God directly. (Anglican parishes are inconsistent on this point.)
Not all churches make this distinction--or if they do, then they treat it quite differently from what I described above. Reformed and most Baptist churches do not believe that it is possible to lose one's salvation. However, the open practice of what looks like "mortal sin" would indicate the possibility that someone is not really a Christian at all.
We Lutherans do not make this distinction. For us, loss of salvation doesn't happen by committing particular sins. Rather, loss of salvation happens when God's Word and the Sacraments are neglected. If you are not receiving God's grace, the sinful nature that you were born with will eventually reassert itself, and you will forget and/or reject the gifts God offers you.
Question: What are good Fantasy Books like The Mortal Instruments? I'm interested in books similar to The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare. That includes Demons, Werewolves, Vampires, Vampire/Demon Hunters, and Romance. Oh, and I prefer Young Adult Novels.
And if it is a series, no more than 5 books in it. I don't think I would have the attention span to read a series with over 10 books in it.
Some of these books I've already read, but these are great suggestions!
Answer: Strange Angels- Lili St. Crow
House of Night Series- P.C Cast
Nightworld Series- L.J Smith
Shiver- Maggie Stiefvater
Evernight- Claudia Gray
And if your into fairies,
Tithe- Holly Black
Wings- Aprilynne Pike
And another fantasy type with fighting ect.
Graceling- Kristen Cashore
Question: What could be wrong with marrying a mortal? I married a mortal man and my mother got mad and said that I shouldn't. She even shrunk him on our wedding day to prove what a small man he was and he almost got killed!
I just don't understand, what should I be worried about?
(((Killer Kitteh))) She is malicious but only to him. I did bring this to the attention of the witches counsel and they advised me that whatever she does is out of their hands. They also advised me against the marriage. : (
(((Lady M)))
Oh I couldn't do that, divorce is simply unheard of these days.
I am afraid even doctor Bombay can't help. He is afraid of her too, why the mere mention of being nice to him causes her to threaten him with a life of being an artichoke!
Answer: Darren?? hmmm...i'm no mere mortal you know *winks at you* i've been told i'm a god!! :) perhaps we should get together some time :)
MUHAHAHAHAHA
Question: What type of font is used in The Mortal Instruments Trilogy? I really liked the font that was used in the The Mortal Instruments Trilogy by Cassandra Clare. I am not asking about the cover font because that was designed by Russell Gordon, and is unique to this series; I am asking about the font used inside, like the chapter titles, and the paragraph font. If you could tell me what the name of the font(s) are, and where I could get it, that would be appreciated. Thanks!
Answer: I've looked at City of Glass...
http://www.amazon.com/Glass-Mortal-Instruments-Cassandra-Clare/dp/1416914307
And when you click "look inside" the first page says "The text for this book is set in Dolly"
http://new.myfonts.com/fonts/underware/dolly/
I'm not sure about the chapter titles though.
