Lavender Cotton
Question: Is it possible to divide cotton lavender? I planted three small plants two years ago, and they have spread like wildfire becoming too big and smothering the plants either side.
Can I divide them and place them elsewhere and if so when is the best time to do it?
edit- Eeek how do I cut off a layer of root? :(
Answer: Lavender cotton (Santolina chamaecyparrus) and several other perennials are actually small woody shrubs and should not be divided. These include perennial candytuft (Iberis sempervirens), lavender, rosemary, southernwood (Artemesia abrotanum), and several other artemesias.
These plants often have rooted layers (branches that have developed roots while touching the soil). The layers can be cut off the parent plant, dug up and replanted as though they were divisions.
Question: who is Lavender Cotton?
Answer: Lavender Cotton is not a person.
Lavender Cotton or French lavender (Santolina chamaecyparyssus L.) is neither a true Lavender nor a cotton; but a perennial shrub with yellow flowers from the Daisy family (Compositae). It is found in dry places (side of the paths). Its leaves are divided with round cotton-like lobes; and so probably the name.
Question: I want to dye the background of a printed cotton handkerchief? I bought a white cotton handkerchief with 5 large white printed flowers on it. I want to dye the background a light grayish-lavender. Is this possible? I imagined absorbing the dye on a flat sponge and applying it around the printed flowers. Any suggestions? Thanks a lot
Answer: Go to a craft store and buy some "fabric resist". This is like a starch paste that you can paint over the flowers to keep them from absorbing the background dye. Once they are all covered, you can dye or paint the scarf. Or you can paint the flowers with melted wax and then iron it between two pieces of cloth to melt the wax out after you have dyed or painted the background. My sister used to paint elaborate designs on silk and that is the method she used.
Question: How do I crochet a lavender bag? Hi, Thanks for reading.
I have just been given some dried lavender and a little while ago I brought some crochet cotton and I have been trying to find a pattern for a crochet lavender bag and I can't find one anywhere so I was just wondering if you had one thank you again.
Answer: I think you mean sachet. There are loads of online patterns: http://www.crochetpatterncentral.com/directory/sachets.php
Have fun!
All the best.
Question: How to clean scented sachets stuffed with lavender or aroma beads? I have a bunch of dusty old sachets, some of which still have a faint smell, and one of which I've had since I was a baby & am keeping for sentimental value. I figure throwing them in the washer will clean them but get rid of any scent.
How do I clean them & possibly renew the scent? Some of them can be untied to pull out beads & cotton. Others are pillows or little stuffed animals that can't be opened without tearing seams.
Thanks for any advice on the topic!
Answer: I had some that I cleaned.
I opened them up and hand washed them in a sink.
Once dry I decided to buy fresh dried Lavender instead of using the old Lavender that I had saved. It gave it a much stronger smell. I also have one that has dried rose blossoms, but also added a little rose oil to keep the smell fresh!
I then sewed them back up. I love the scent when I open my drawers.
Hope this helps!
Question: What kind of fabrics can be put in the microwave without burning or melting besides cotton? I am trying to make some of those "therapeutic warming rice things" that people warm in the micro and put on thier eyes or forhead. Any ideas on good things to fill them with too would be nice. I'm thinking flax seeds and some lavender might work well.
Answer: I don't think that most fabrics will burn in a microwave (as opposed to a regular oven) because it's only the moisture in things that heats up in a microwave.
If whatever you put in your bags though has enough moisture to heat up really hot, some plastics (polyesters, etc.) could be affected because of conduction from the fillers, but generally not ...however, the older the bags get, the longer their fillers often need to be microwaved, so longer times could be a problem for synthetic fabrics eventually?
(Other natural fabrics besides cotton would be silk, wool, rayon I think, and possibly others.)
Here are some other things that heating bags (which can also be cooled in the freezer btw) can be filled with, though some behave differently --e.g., hold heat longer, are moister, last longer, are less resistant to bugs (corn), have scent, etc.:
grains like:
rice...flax seed ...millet...barley... corn... buckwheat
also:
cherry pits ...small aquarium gravel... sand
Some scented additives if you want to use them could be dried herbs, potpourri, dried orange or lemon peels?, essential oils, etc.
And check here too for a comparison of some of the different kinds of filler:

Question: DOES ANY ONE REMEMBER THESE DOLLS CALLED COTTON CANDY DOLLS? THEY HAD A COTON CANDY NECKLACE AROUND THEIR NECK? The hair was made of big loops of yarn. There was a boy and a girl. They had black and white ones. They came out sometime in the 80's. I believe they had on lavender colored overalls.
Answer: Sounds like a Cabbage Patch Doll. I was born in 1980 and never heard of a cotton candy doll.
Question: Which Lavender aroma medium? Which of the following lavender aroma types is more practical and potent to have as a sleep aid.
I don't know which would be better?
1) lavender flower grains in a cotton sachet
2) a lavender aroma hanging sachet
3) porous lavender sleep stones kept in a bowl
4) fragrance plug?
5) there is another option, but it can be messy if it is accidently falls - a lavender humidifier pot device where the oil is put into the the container and is fragranced by the heat from a central-heating
Aroma Experts - any help for your experience?
Answer: I think the best way is to either drop lavender oil on your pillow, or use lavender flowers to make a pillow. just like a sachet just make it big enough to rest your head on. You could also invest in an aroma lamp and sleep with it beside your bed, they're not messy at all. Just google them and you'll find dozens of different kinds.

Question: How to remove color from fabric? I was wondering what would be the best way to make a purple dress white with out blotching it...or at least to a lavender. Its a cotton dress. walmart brand
Answer: You could try something like Rit color remover. The thread, however, is likely polyester and will remain purple.
Question: Bought a plant called a cotton lavender today. It was in the herb section and does not smell like lavender.? It is very pretty, but does it have any uses?
Answer: Cotton Lavender
Santolina chamaecyparissus
Sometimes known as Grey Lavender, Lavender Cotton or Grey Santolina.
This aromatic plant has been grown in English Gardens since the Sixteenth century, where it was often used as a space filler in knot gardens or to edge paths and walks.
Nicholas Culpepper writing in 1649 assures us that it could be used as an antidote for all sorts of poisonous bites.
However its main use was to deter moths from munching their way through clothing - especially woollen clothing. It was mixed with English Lavender or Rosemary and put into muslin bags and hung amongst clothes – and is still used for this purpose today.
Despite its name it is not related at all to English Lavender and is a member of the daisy family.
It is a hardy perennial shrub (to zone 7) growing to 32 inches or 80 cm and has lovely silvery grey green aromatic leaves.
In July and August it has small button-like flowers that unlike the leaves have a rather unpleasant smell.
Cultivation:
It prefers a light well drained soil in a sunny position and is very good at tolerating drought.
It can be clipped in late spring or early summer but never in autumn and propagated from cutting in late July.
Uses.
Cotton Lavender is a good companion plants for roses and can be used as ground cover if spaced 24 inches or 60 cm apart.
It looks good as edging to paths and borders and will keep its leaves in all but the hardest winters.

Question: Can someone please translate this into french? The second model will be wearing a lavender cotton long sleeve with lace at its end accompanied by a sleek shiny green belt, along with it are dark blue wash skinny jeans. Covering the toes are black patent double strapped Mary Jane stilletos, accesorized with a black crystalized necklace, followed by a small black patent leather Guess bag with gold charms.
Thanks =D
Answer: Both the answers above this one have come from translation engines and are in atrocious French. Anyone using them at a fashion show would be a laughing stock as they make very little sense.
Question: Does wearing a sleeping mask to bed? 1 ) really improves your sleep and beauty ?
2 ) Which kind should I get for best results ? Silk, lavender, or cotton ?
Answer: Actually no. I feel like it cuts off the oxygen a little bit. I wear one if there are bright lights.
Silk.
Question: What is the best fabric dye to use on a home dying project? I'm dying a 20-yard skirt black and I want to be sure it will come out black and not grayish purple like last time I tried this. The lavender skirt that I am using is %100 cotton according to the label so I don't expect much of an issue if I get the right dye.
I'm thinking of dyes like Idye, Dylon, and Tulip for this project but I want to know which is the best of those kinds...
Answer: I'd use procion MX... but know that the skirt is probably not sewn with cotton thread, so you're going to get a black skirt with lavender stitching. Also, black is a very difficult color to dye. Quadruple the amount of dye you expected to use, use very hot water and a long dyeing time, and consider using a dye fix.
Some helps:

Question: How do I spot treat a garment that was accidentally bleached? some drops of beach fell on a favorite blouse. It is cotton (linen) and an unusual shade of blue/lavender. does anyone have advice about how to dye it? Is there a way to spot treat the bleached sections and then color the whole garment?
Answer: Yes, you can re-dye the blouse...in fact, it's the only way to fix the bleach spots.
I don't recommend using Rit Dye, tho. Rit Dye is just awful. I once dyed a pair of jeans with Rit and they turned my legs black every time I wore them, even after many washings. I finally just threw the jeans in the trash.
Dylon Dye is a much better choice. You can buy Dylon over the Internet. I only found one on-line store selling Dylon in lilac (which is the same as lavender):

Good luck.

Question: How do I safely cover a bleach stain? I have a pretty old dress which got stained with bleach when it was being handwashed. The dress is 100% cotton, and it's a fairly light lavender color. I'm not sure if it would be better to bleach the entire dress and then dye it, or just use a really dark dye that would mask the bleach spot. I'm also not sure what kind of dye to use. Because the dress is so old, I would feel most comfortable using a non-chemical dye (especially if I am also using bleach).
Answer: Make sure you have protection, be it mace in your pocket or a water balloon. Be prepared and know your surroundings!

Question: Do you think body fantasy body sprays/fragrances smell good? I bought the cotton candy fantasy and I smelled a little too much like the real thing. So, has anyone tried other body fantasies, that are more floral, like lavender or freesia?
Answer: All the Body Fantasy sprays have too much alcohol to suit me. I use the Raspberry once in a while but my favorite is the "Vanilla Fantasy" moisturizing lotion.
Question: Cotton wool? Ever since i was really young (2 or 3), i have gone to bed every night holding a cotton wool ball in my hand. My mum started me off with it as she used to put lavender oil on it to help me sleep. It's a habit i haven't broken and my friends/partners think it's kind of sweet yet strange. Has anyone else done this with a cotton ball and what is the psychology behind it?
Answer: I think it is probably like the comfort blanket many people have as small children. The lavender at the time helped you to relax and sleep and reminded you of Mum when you were alone in the dark, but by now you should have broken the habit, although some adults still go to sleep with, say a Teddy Bear in place of the comfort blanket because it serves the same purpose of re-assurance that you are not alone.
