L-Arginine
Question: L-Arginine? Is it true L-Arginine increases the level of growth hormone your produce? if so is it much?
Answer: In larger amounts, L-arginine stimulates the release of hormones growth hormone and prolactin. In the body, L-arginine is used to make nitric oxide, which reduces blood vessel stiffness, increases blood flow, and improves blood vessel function.
L-arginine has been used for erectile dysfunction. Like the drug sildenafil citrate (Viagra), L-arginine is thought to enhance the action of nitric oxide, which relaxes muscles surrounding blood vessels supplying the penis. As a result, blood vessels in the penis dilate, increasing blood flow, which helps maintain an erection. The difference in how they work is that Viagra blocks an enzyme called PDE5 which destroys nitric oxide and L-arginine is used to make nitric oxide.
L-arginine may lower blood pressure because it is involved in the formation of nitric oxide. It may also result in indigestion, nausea, and headache.
L-arginine should not be used following a heart attack. If you have a history of heart disease, consult your doctor before taking L-arginine.
Higher doses of arginine can increase stomach acid, so it may worsen heartburn, ulcers, or digestive upset cause by medications. Arginine appears to increase stomach acid by stimulating the production of gastrin, a hormone that increases stomach acid.
L-arginine may also alter potassium levels, especially in people with liver disease. People with kidney disease and those who take ACE inhibitors or potassium sparing diuretics should not use supplemental L-arginine unless they are under professional supervision. It may also alter the levels of other chemicals and electrolytes in the body, such as chloride, sodium, and phosphate.
Arginine may increase blood sugar levels, so it shouldn't be used by people with diabetes unless under a doctor's supervision.
People with genital herpes should not take L-arginine because it may aggravate their symptoms.
NSAIDS (non-steroidal anti-inflammatories such as Ibuprofen) or other drugs that are hard on the stomach should not be combined with L-arginine.
Drugs that alter potassium levels in the body, such as ACE inhibitors and potassium sparing diuretics.
Prices range from around $6 to $54 depending on the mg and where you buy it.
Question: Why do websites say children and teenagers should not use L-arginine? I've always read on websites that 'children and adolescents' should NOT use L-arginine when they are still growing. Why? What effect will this have on teenagers? Will it make them produce more growth hormone and thus grow real tall or what?
Answer: I wouldn't automatically associate L-Arginine with making children grow taller. Men use it for erectile dysfunction so the last thing anyone needs is an already horny teen running around with raging boners.
But, I doubt that's their real reason, too.
The truth is, I took L-Arginine/L-Ornithine/L-Tryptophan in big doses when I was 17 and working out and I grew like a Sasquatch. I developed a really hot body but I was also working it out regularly, swimming, lifting, riding bikes, etc.
It DOES stimulate growth hormone. So, yeah, that's probably why... kids and teens already produce plenty and I wouldn't recommend it unless you're going to try to create a Greek statue body like I did.
Question: can the L-arginine be used in the treatment of endometriosis? Can the L-arginine be used in the treatment of endometrisis? The nitrogen oxide is derived from the L-arginine, and can be a neural transmitter to the hypothalamus. It can stimulate the secretion of hormone and treat the endometriosis. Is it true?
Answer: Endometriosis not scar tissue, although adhesions and scarring often accompany the disease. Endometriosis is the presence of tissue similar - although not histologically the same - to that which lines the uterus, implanted elsewhere in the body. The implants actively bleed and produce inflammatory substances, and can lead to excruciating pain and infertility. Were it simply 'mostly scar tissue,' it would be curable by virtue of simple removal of the scar. It's not.
The use of L-arginine, the precursor of nitric oxide, has not been found beneficial in the management of poor endometrial development or as a valid treatment for the disease on any level ['Management of Benign Gynecologic Problems Before IVF'; presentation, 7th World Congress on Controversies in Obstetrics and Gynecology & Infertility, 2005; Athens].
Question: Is it safe to take L-Arginine and what foods contain it or how can i get it? I'm 14 (i was born premature btw if that helps in anyway)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L-arginine#Growth_hormone
^^^ it says it can help growth hormones
i'm little shorter then most guys my age
and what else can i do that can help excel my growth other then exercise, full nights sleep, and a good diet.
Answer: Supplements may have side-effects, some of them serious. But many people don't get enough vitamins. I doubt that taking an arginine supplement is wise unless recommended by a doctor.
Foods rich in arginine include most nuts and seeds, shellfish, turkey, and other meats, fish, dairy, and eggs.
Growing up, my younger brother ate his wheaties, and now he's the tallest member of the family.
I dont know whether that has anything to do with arginine.
People with herpes infections should avoid high intakes of arginine-rich foods. This includes herpes simplex as well as chicken pox.
The best thing to do for good health is to get a well-balanced diet, with a variety of nutritious whole-foods, including vegetables, each day.
Question: I need a nitric oxide (l-arginine) supplement without caffeine or creatine? I have taken N.O. Xplode for a few years and I have always liked it, but It has so much caffeine I can never sleep if I use it to work out in the afternoons.
Also I dont want to take a creatine supplement.
Are there any pre-workout supplements with L-Arginine as the active ingredient that dont have caffeine or creatine?
Answer: Why not take L-Arginine as the only ingredient?

Question: What can L-Arginine do for women as far as ovulation and conception go!?!? What does L-arginine do for women? Is it true that it can help you to ovulate and thus concieve if ur having problems in that area. Please any one that has experience with it let me know. Also does it boost your chances of conception if you take it along with Vitex??
Answer: No it's not a good idea.
Question: I can get an erection most of the times but sometimes i cant will L-Arginine help? Will L- Arginine in time cure erection problems? I heard that 3 grams per day for about a month can heal many erection problems for men. Is this true.
Answer: idk about the amount of grams you're supposed to take per day, but yes, L-Arginine will help with some erections problems. L-Arginine helps increase bloodflow throughout the body, including your penis. so since the reason u get an erection is because ur penis fills with blood, it only makes sense that having more blood flow into ur penis will not only make it harder, but also might make it bigger and wider as well. hope this helps
Question: does l arginine or other familiar amino acids really help grow taller? i heard that amino acids like l arginine or l ornithin helps human body to increase grownth hormone..if anyone knows something..
Answer: Yes, but not in the way you're thinking.
L-Arginine and L-Ornithine are two of the Amino Acids that help give your body the nutrition it needs to produce it's own Growth Hormone, that's true. But more Growth Hormone doesn't mean you'll grow taller.
All that being said, nothing can force your body to grow taller than your DNA says you will. There are some things that can take away from your potential height (including smoking, drugs, caffeine, etc), so as long as you stay away from those and have a healthy diet, you should grow as tall as you're supposed to. Besides all that, your growing age normally peaks around 20 years old, so if you're younger than that, you've got plenty of time to finish growing and any HGH pills (or other "artificial growth" products) can actually be detrimental to your height and/or health. If you are over 20 years old, HGH won't help with height anyway because your bones would have already fused.
However, if they are insoles, those will help to boost your height because they are adding the height, not making you grow taller.
Good luck and hope I helped!
Question: How much L-Arginine should I give my cat? I picked up L-Arginine as a supplement for my cat. It comes in a 500mg capsule. Is it ok to empty the whole capsule into his food... or maybe just half?
He was recently diagnosed with lymphoma.
The vet doesn't think he's up to the chemo. We've been trying to build him back up. Now trying a raw diet with various supplements. And then the vet and I might consider an alternative to chemo. Anyway, this is the last-ditch effort before I'd have to just let him go.
Answer: with lymphoma probably need large does though, I am very sorry, I think the cat may need chemotherapy instead. L-Arginine may not able to treat the problem.
Question: Can a solely L-Arginine supplement pill be substituted for expensive Nitric Oxide transducers? From what I understand, Nitric Oxide transducers such as NO Explode is mainly effective due to the higher amounts of L-Arginine. Can I substitute this for just a straight L-Arginine supplement pill and reap the same benefits I get from more expensive N.O. transducers? (The pump and increased bloodflow) If so how could I do this safely and what would be a proper dosage?
Answer: The amino acid L-arginine performs the same function as the NO transducers like Viagra. In fact that amino acid is referred to by some as the "poor man's Viagra" but the drawback is that abuse of the amino acid may lead to thickening of the tissues which only gets better with time. It is a safe and much less alternative to the transducers and can be used as an exercise supplement as well.
Question: Are execisive amounts of L-arginine potentially dangerous to human beings? I have been taking L-arginine for three weeks now, 30 grams a day, and i wanted to know if that is dangerous for human beings in the long run.
Answer: Excessive amounts of anything are potentially dangerous to human beings. Moderation is the key in all things. The middle road is the path of least resistance.
Question: Is it safe to take Ginkgo and L-arginine together and does it help with erectile dysfunction? I'm just taking these to get my blood flowing again plus I just asked someone about is it safe to take both the other day and they told me both are good for erectile dysfunction and make you last longer in bed and I had no clue it does that because that's not what I'm taking it for only to get my blood flowing.
Answer: Ginkgo and L-arginine are nutritional supplements that are safe to take together (at a reasonable dose, as with anything, taking too much could be harmful). Both are commonly used for improving circulation which may therefore be also beneficial for erectile dysfunction (ED) (especially if circulation is a cause). However, the notion that these supplements may make you last longer in bed is not true. I am not aware of any evidence of this effect. There are exercises you can perform that can help in this, but nutritional supplements are likely not effective. Kegal exercises can help you control ejaculation for longer sex. See here for more info: http://sexuality.about.com/od/anatomyresponse/ht/kegelsmen.htm
Arginine is a common and natural amino acid. It is commonly used for circulatory problems becasue it is an NO (Nitric Oxide) precursor. NO causes relaxation and dilation of your blood vessels allowing blood to flow. The theory is that by taking arginine, you can potentially increase the amount of NO in the blood, and therefore improve circulation.
Ginkgo biloba tree leaf extract has been used therapeutically in China for millennia. The active ingredients of Ginkgo biloba extracts contain many different substances but most of them fall into two main categories: Terpenoid lactones and Flavonoids. Ginkgo is most commonly used to help memory and mental function (and research reveals this effect may be due to increased circulation in the brain.)
In terms of erectile dysfunction, there may be a benefit to using both arginine and ginkgo (because of the circulatory benefits). See the following sites for specific research in regards to the effect of arginine and ginkgo for ED:
http://www.erectiledysfunctioncentral.org/?s=arginine
http://www.erectiledysfunctioncentral.org/?s=ginkgo
Dosage is also a key factor. One study with a low dose showed no effect with ED (http://www.erectiledysfunctioncentral.org/erectile-dysfunction-research/effect-of-oral-administration-of-high-dose-nitric-oxide-donor-l-arginine-in-men-with-organic-erectile-dysfunction-results-of-a-double-blind-randomized-placebo-controlled-study/) and another study with high dose revealed some benefit for ED (http://www.erectiledysfunctioncentral.org/erectile-dysfunction-research/effectiveness-of-oral-l-arginine-in-first-line-treatment-of-erectile-dysfunction-in-a-controlled-crossover-study/)
It would be advisable to seek professional advise from an expert in nutritional supplements (i.e. Naturopathic Doctor or MD with training in nutrition).
Here is another good article on nutrional supplementation (including arginine and ginkgo): http://www.erectiledysfunctioncentral.org/erectile-dysfunction-research/nutrients-and-botanicals-for-erectile-dysfunction-examining-the-evidence-2/ (click on the yellow "alternative medicine review" button for the full article)
Question: How can I tell the quality of a vitamin or supplement like ALA, L-Arginine, creatine or others? There are so many options and price differences, how can I tell if X brand is better than Y brand. If I'm going to spend money on these supplements, I want to make sure it's worth it.
Answer: Make sure the brand you are buying uses (USP) Pharmaceutical grade ingredients.
Also look for the GMP stamp, this is a goods manufacturing stamp. Look for names like Creapure for creatine, and anjipure for Glutamines, this is a high standard set out for these products. Look up reviews, and go to the products website.
I like Allmax line of products and Now Foods. Which has GMP and USP.
For your Arginine, Now Foods makes an affordable one, thats high quality!!
Question: Is there any medical or health benefit to taking L-arginine supplements to increase nitric oxide? If so, what is the right amount to take? Can you take to much? What does it do?
Answer: Nitric Oxide (NO) is known as the "Endothelial Relaxation Factor". It is vital for the healthy functioning of your arteries. L-Arginine is the precursor for the biosynthesis of NO. Supplementation with L-Arginine can increase production of NO, which can improve blood flow through, and health of, the arteries.
Most medical research studies have used 6 grams per day doses of L-Arginine. Like anything (even water), you can potentially take too much.
Best wishes and good luck.
Question: Are there any serious health risks to taking L-Arginine supplements? I am a healthy 19 Year old male and would like to take L-Arginine supplements.
i have done research and only found health risks to heart attack patients and people with asthma (neither of which i have had), But i just wanted to ask on here and make sure someone else didn't have information i did not find.
Answer: I took it from 18 through 24 or so. I had chronic asthma at the time, but it was triggered by allergies and exercise in cold dry air. I'm surprised to hear about the asthma risk, since I've always been very tuned in to what I'm taking, knowing its side effects, and monitoring how I feel, and I have no recollection of L-Arginine making a difference in asthma or even knowing that it could.
My only personal side effect from L-Arginine was stomach acid at the time. As you'll notice the bitter taste takes some getting used to. Since it's been a while, prior to answering I looked it up on the Mayo Clinic website to find out what I didn't already know, and it mostly appears to have plenty of potential short-term side effects, but I didn't see any long-term ones.
The Mayo Clinic cites the following side effects:
"Stomach discomfort, including nausea, stomach cramps, or an increased number of stools, may occur. People with asthma may experience a worsening of symptoms, which may be related to allergy, if arginine is inhaled."
Summarizing the other potential ones: Other potential side effects include low blood pressure, and changes in electrolytes, risk of bleeding, may increase blood sugar levels, may increase potassium levels, may worsen symptoms of sickle cell disease, not recommended as a supplement during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Question: How long until you can see the effects of L-arginine and zinc supplements? I've recently started taking these supplements to increase my sperm count.
Answer: It will take about two weeks to build up in your system. You will begin to notice the impact of L-Arginine relatively quickly as it is a Vaso-Dilator. The blood gets pumped pretty quickly to every part of the body which you will notice pretty soon.
Best of luck
Question: would taking L-arginine and L-glutamine together before bedtime cancel out their hgh and nos benefits? ive been taking both supplements on an empty stomach about 30 mins before i sleep to increase both hgh and nitric oxide, but ive been told that taking arginine with any other amino acid cancels out its beneficial effects that i want.
is this true should i stop taking them together or am i good doing it the way i am now?
Answer: Yes i think so. Read about it here http://www.hghtruth.org/
Question: Can anyone suggest to me which brands produce L-arginine that contains a blind amino acid rider? Thank You
Answer: The term "blind amino acid" rider is merely a trademarked phrase used for marketing purposes and is not a scientific term. A quality l-arginine supplement does need to be sweetened with a low-glycemic sweetener (such as aspartame or stevia). If you're looking for the highest quality, pharmaceutical-grade l-arginine dietary supplement, check out ProArgi-9 Plus from Synergy WorldWIde. Manufactured to the highest standards, it was formulated by top medical professionals and is based on solid science,
Question: I am taking L-Arginine to help boost my body's growth hormone levels. How often and when should I take it?
Answer: You should really speak with a health care professional about the dose and the dose schedule. Only someone who understands your body and your bodies needs can safely suggest the proper amounts for you.
