Guinea Corn
Question: How often to feed corn to a guinea pig? My guinea pig LOVES corn i know its good for them to eat but can i feed it to them everyday or sometimes. Please if you don't know the answer don't answer the question
I give them plain corn no butter or anything else on it
Answer: It can be a rare treat, but don't make a habit of it.
About once a month or so, instead of their normal plate of veggies for dinner, my four guinea pigs would get an ear of corn--kernals, husks, silk...everything. I usually grabbed the smallest ear I could find at the grocery store (and the store let me take the husks that people were discarding for free--a nice bonus). The piggies would go to work; they eventually developed a very efficient method for stripping it down and then spinning it in such a way that everybody gets to eat kernals at the same time. An hour later, only the cob would remain.
Question: Can guinea pigs eat corn on the cob? the people i got my guinea pigs from said that they used to give them corn on the cob a lot and that they loved it. but now i found something on the internet that said that they cant have corn kernels? so i dont know if they can have corn or not..can they?
Answer: my sister had a huge male one and she says they can eat it
Question: Do Corn snakes eat Guinea pigs? I am thinking of buying a Corn snake. But i also have a Guinea pig and after finding out they eat mostly rodents like rats or mice i dont think i might be getting one. Just to clear things up...In rodents (Guinea Pigs) Are Guinea Pigs eaten as well by corn snakes?
Answer: It kinda depends on the size of the snake and the size of the guinea pig. if the snake is big enough he will try to eat the guiea pig
Question: When feeding Guinea pigs corn do you put the uncooked corn on the cob in the cage whole?
Answer: Instead of giving the pig the corn cob, give him the silks and leaves. Corn doesn't have much nutritional value for piggies, but they LOVE the silk part. Go figure...AND it's okay to give it to them. If you opt to give them the whole thing, I'd cut the cob into quarters.
Question: Where in USA can I buy Guinea Corn Flour? Do not include bread or guineas
Answer: You can usually find it at Whole Foods or another health food type store that carries gluten-free items.
Question: what is a better pet a corn snake or a guinea pig? im getting a pet but im not sre which is better i cant choose between the two can u help me??
i amgtting a animal but i cant choose betweent he two ihav no other petz and i want one i can carry when evr i wat and fun to play wit wich one??
Answer: I had this same problem! Here is what I came up with.
1. Snakes are more expensive (twice as much) but Guinea Pigs should be bought in pairs. (regarding just price of animal)
2. The start up cost for a snake is more but the month by month price is less. (you need a 20 gallon tank + heat lamb + standard stuff vs. a large cage c&c suggested + litter pan + standard stuff) start up. (you need mice + paper towels vs. litter + food + hay + chew toys)month by month. Still the Guinea Pigs end up cheaper. (snake vs. g pig)
3. Both are fun to play with. I have interacted with both species a lot and I find that they really are the same in this. Some Guinea Pigs like to be left alone and so do some snakes. It depends on personality. (I picked up a snake a week ago from a pet store and the thing practically jumped in my hand.
4. (my main problem) Guinea pigs don't rely on electricity... Snakes do. My electricity goes out sometimes. In March it was out for 3 days.
5. Guinea pigs do require more time. They need there cage cleaned often (mine get grumpy if its even a little dirty so I use a litter pan) they need food and hay and water provided every day. Snakes need food once or twice a week with water provided but they don't dirty there cage much
I ended up with Guinea Pigs and I plan on getting a snake when I get out of college and get a good job. They cost a lot and I got my first guinea pig and cage for free. I suggest craigslist. My first Guinea pig is old but I love her!
Question: what do you know about guinea corn? used to make pito
Answer: Guinea Corn is any of several types of grain sorghum, especially durra
Question: can guinea pigs eat corn husks? [ the stuff that you take off corn on the cob ]? my dad told me to give them some because we just ran out of their pellets and we're going to the pet store soon but can i give them some because he saved a bag of it from last nights dinner. can i give them a little?
Answer: Here is some information and sites on what they can and cannot eat. Corn husks are listed as a can eat.
Foods to avoid are listed below:
long celery stalks (the "strings" in celery are difficult to digest); cut them into small pieces
iceberg lettuce (high in nitrates, no nutritional value)
any shelled nuts or seeds (guinea pigs can choke on the shell fragments)
raw beans (poisonous)
rhubarb (extremely poisonous)
any green in a potato is poisoinous
Proper feeding and nutrition: http://www.aracnet.com/~seagull/Guineas/…
Guinea pigs eat pellets specially made for them - they cannot eat rabbit pellets because guinea pigs don't produce their own vitamin C and need to get it from their food and treats. When they are less than 6 months old, they eat alfalfa pellets, after 6 months they switch to timothy hay pellets. Obviously they need clean water too.
Guinea pigs need an unlimited supply of timothy hay (we get ours shipped from a farm!)
They also need fresh fruit and veggies such as apple, escarole, curly endive, green leaf lettuce, green and red peppers, watermelon with rind, corn husk, italian parsley, seedless grapes, and more!

Cheers!
Question: Can a Guinea pig eat fresh corn?
Answer: Corn is actually not very good for small animals. It can cause multiple health problems. I think it's so awful that most small animal contains it. I won't feed it to my rats.
Question: Can guinea pigs eat corn? so i know they can eat corn but i was wondering if you have to cook it first. Like can you just shulk the corn and give it to them or do you have to cook it?
Also can they eat the husk?
Answer: Corn is very high in sugar so i would not give them a lot of it but once an a while as a treat is just fine. They can have the husks and silks all they want though.
Question: can guinea pigs eat canned corn and stuff? can they eat things like canned/frozen corn, peas, ect.
Answer: Don't give them canned, too much salt. Frozen and thawed is ok if you have nothing else but fresh is best. Corn and peas are high in starch and might make them fat if fed too much. Check with your local pet store on proper diet.

Question: Guinea pigs and baby corn? One of my guinea pigs is underweight and i've tried EVERYTHING to get her to gain weight, but it's just not happening. So i bought some babycorn today, I heard its fattening for guinea pigs so i gave her some and she loves it. I was just wondering if I should avoid it in the future, whether it could harm her? I hope not. ;s
Answer: Baby corn is fine, as long as you wash it first incase it is sprayed with something.
Beetroot is good for putting on weight and conditioning pigs, make sure you top and tail the beetroot and peel it, then feed it raw in slices.
Kale and spring greens are also good, and bran is a godsend for skinny piggies. My lot get a bowl of bran every night and absolutly love it! You can soak the bran with a little warm water or effervescent orange dilute to make it taste like oranges if you want or just leave it dry.
That should help her put on weight =]
Question: can guinea pigs safely eat corn husks? i gave them to her today for the first time without thinking. i feel bad now. was it okay to give them to her?? she loved them! i am happy she ate them because she dosen't eat anything else except her food and apples.
i just am worried now that i might have fed her something bad...
please help!
yeah and i got her from someone that didn't want her anymore. he never fed her anything but her food. so i understand what u mean justified...
Answer: Yes, they are safe. Just don't feed them onions or potatoes.
Sometimes guinea pigs that have not been exposed from birth to a varied diet of veggies are somewhat apprehensive about trying new foods. Keep encouraging her to try different veggies and eventually, she will probably decide she likes them. It can take awhile. Of course, they also sometimes dislike a particular veggie and just flat won't eat it. I have a couple of pigs that do not like strawberries, of all things!
The following website gives a very comprehensive list of veggies and fruits, along with their corresponding nutritional values. They can even be printed out so you can take them to the grocery store with you!

Good luck!
