Ground Pine
Question: Ground lamb, pine nuts, parsley, feta and.....? What do you think? If I mix ground lamb, parsley, pine nuts, & feta for a filling, what spices/seasonings/other herbs would you include?
Greek/Middle Eastern Flavor
I used garlic, thyme, cumin, cinnamon.
No best answer.
Answer: Cumin and rosemary. A definite for any kind of middle East or Mediterranean foods. Yum!
Question: The pine trees needles turn yellow and fell on the ground.? There are several pine trees in the back yard, the needles turn yellow and some of them feel on the ground.
Anybody knows any remedy to save these trees.
Answer: Near the end of the summer, white pine and other long needle pines will shed the previous years needles. This is natural. Not sure about short needle pines.
Question: Can I start my compost pile where the ground is covered with pine tree droppings?
Answer: One of the best places because the needles hold in moisture, which is needed for proper fermentation. Make sure you water occasionally and maybe use some 21/0/0, or sulfate of ammonia to speed the "break-down" process. Good luck!
P.S. Sun and a black tarp helps too.
Question: What will neutralize pine tree chips left after a stump has been ground? I recently had two spruce trees removed and the stumps ground. Would like to plant a garden in the same area. Friends say nothing will grow until I remove all the ground stump chips. What can I cover the area with to neutralize the excess acid created as these chips decay?
Answer: the problem comes in the mulch chips using up the nitrogen in the soil in that area as they start decomposing.... there will be none left for any plants.... so you really must remove the chips and get a load of soil and good compost to add to the area to plant in..... yes, you can use the chips later as mulch, but when you do, you'll need to add a nitrogen fertilizer to counteract the mulch's use of nitrogen ... since the mulch will only be on the surface, it won't take much from the deeper parts of the soil near the plant roots, so not much fertilizer will be needed... but a little will....
the acid produced by years of pine needles can be fixed with lime, as mentioned... a pH test and a soil test will tell you exactly what's necessary... and you'll need one if you intend planting a garden there....
Question: OK to plant locust tree (in Utah) near roots of dead pine tree, on sloping ground? Good idea to plant deeper? Will irrigate with underground sprinklers. Can remove enough roots for a hole about 2 feet diameter, and as deep as needed, to plant a tree from a container about 5 gallons size. I'm not fussy about how fast the Shademaster Locust tree will grow, because the tree must be planted near roots I'm not willing to remove.
Is planting deeper than normal a good way to give the tree a better chance for normal growth than planting at normal depth?
Slope of soil is about 20 degrees. The soil is moderately sandy.
Answer: plant according to the depth directions
please bear in mind the soil around a pine tree
will be very acidic you might need to prep the soil a little more
i think that is the most important here and especially because it is sandy. needs more clay and top soil added also important is staking the tree and watering daily until it takes root good
Question: what it a good ground cover to plant under a pine tree? I live in NJ and my yard is mostly shaded with oak trees!
Answer: Pine trees are hard to plant under, since they drop their needles and if not cleaned up (which most people don't do), can form a thick covering. Those needles will kill many perennials. Azaleas are an idea if you want shrubs, but they are not a ground cover. Your best bet would be pachysandra, which thrive in shade and acidic soil (lots of trees usually means your soil will be acidic). Keep fallen needles off of the plants so that they don't die.
Hint: If you know of someone who has a thick patch of pachysandra, they are quite easy to transplant. Pull handfuls of pachy from the patch, not taking too many from one area. Pick out the ones that have roots on them (not all will) and put 2 or 3 together. The roots are long, and at a 90 degree angle, so: Wind the long roots around in a circle, then plant them in the area you want. Water thoroughly and immediately. I told my physical therapist about this a few weeks ago, and he is ecstatic with the results he has gotten.
Good luck,
your neighbor in Southeastern PA
Question: I am looking for a recipe for Korean porridge made with ground black sesame seeds, jujubes, pine nuts, & sugar? We had it in LA and my husband loved it. It was served for breakfast. Thanks!
Answer: 1/4 teaspoon sugar
1/4 cup Rice flour; dissolved in 1/2-cup water; left 5 minutes
2 teaspoon Honey
4 Dried jujubes (korean dates)-soaked in water 2 hours
1 cup water
1/2 cup pine nuts
1/8 teaspoon salt
Directions: 1. Grind the pine nuts in a processor with 1/2 cup water for about 1/2 minute. Add the balance of the water and process the mixture until smooth. Pour through a metal strainer and rub the particles through, preferably with a wooden spoon. Discard the small amount of residue, which is mostly the “eyes” or buds of the pine nuts. 2. When the jujubes are ready, cut out and discard the pits. Cut the jujubes into thin slices and mix with the honey. Set aside. 3. Simmer the rice flour paste in a pan over low heat, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon until the mixture just starts to bubble. This is the soup thickener. 4. Add the pine nut mixture, the sugar and salt to the rice flour and bring to a low boil for 2 minutes. The lightly thickened porridge, smooth and creamy, is now ready. Pour it into individual bowls and garnish with a teaspoon of the jujube and honey. Serve warm.
Question: What type of ground cover can I plant under two large pine trees? The size is roughly 600 square feet and shaded. I've tried grass but to no avail. Is there a specific type of ivy that would succeed in that area?
Answer: Vinca minor, also known as Common Periwinkle, Periwinkle, and Lesser Periwinkle
Function
evergreen groundcover in shady locations at foundations, beds, raised planters, or under woody plants. The plant: some are variegated leaves and comes in a variety of flower colors: blue; lavendar, white, & magenta to name some. http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/im…
Question: I put bark on ground in back yark and neighbors pine tree has dropped pine needles? How can I remove pine needles?
Answer: You can't . Both the bark and the pine needles are organic and will decompose. Let nature take its course. I understand that the new pine needles are a lighter color but give them time and they will darken.
Question: I just planted a blue spruce pine tree and if the top of the root ball isn't level to the ground is that bad? The root ball size is 14 inches and maybe 4-5 inches are sticking out of the ground. I put dirt all around it to cover and mulched it because I couldn't dig deeper since there were alot of rocks in the ground that deep. Should I be ok?
I forgot to mention that the hill I planted on is not level so the backside of the pine tree I added more dirt to to covr up the exposed root which is 4-5 inches above ground. The front of the pine tree is fine because it is in the ground entirely. People keep saying that the root ball has to be in the ground all the way, but if I would have planted it that way that means that some of the pine needles on the bottom would be also covered in dirt because the top of the root ball is very close to the lower part of the pine needles.
Answer: you should be ok. K-State has just conducted research on this exact topic (planting depth of new trees) and found that it is better to be too shallow than too deep. Basically, the first lateral root should be right at soil level for best results. Also, mulch in a saucer shape, do not mound the mulch around the trunk. This encourages rot, rodents burrowing and can hinder respiration. Good luck. Also, lots of water, the hose on a trickle for at least an hour 3 times a week til established. Also, dont forget to water until the first frost.
Question: My garage is finally clean! What should I use to wash the walls and ground? Pine sol? Ammonia? Bleach? I now want to scrub some of the walls and ground to get rid of some of the nasty scents and ****. What do you use? I've been using a large bucket with hot water and Pine Sol with two cups of bleach. (please don't tell me not to mix cleaning products, Ive been doing it for years and Im still living lol So spare me) My co worker uses a mixture of ammonia hot water and a basic liquid soap in a bucket. Let me know
Answer: depends on the type of walls if you have drywall paint it
Question: I received 3 pine trees for Christmas , ground is frozen already. is it ok to leave in container until spring? I live in michigan
Answer: The best thing to do is leave them in the pot and mulch around the pots with mulch or leaves and store them in an area out of the wind and direct sun. They should go dormant for the winter, as soon as spring gets here I would dig the holes where they are going to be permanently and plant them
Question: Who killed people by fastening them to two pine trees bent down to the ground and letting the trees go, (and)? Who killed people by fastening them to two pine trees bent down to the ground and letting the trees go, (and) died in that way himself?”
Answer: In Greek mythology, Sinis was a bandit killed by Theseus. Described as a giant, Sinis was a son of Poseidon, nicknamed "pinebender". Sinis would force travelers to help him bend pine trees to the ground and then unexpectedly let go, catapulting the victim through the air. Some say he tied people to two pine trees that he bent down to the ground, then let the trees go, tearing his victims apart. This led to him being called Pityocamptes ("pine-bender"). During The Labors of Theseus, he traveled from Troezen to Athens, and in his second deed Theseus killed Sinis in the same way. Theseus then raped Sinis' daughter, Perigune, who later bore Theseus' son, Melanippus. She later married Deioneus of Oechalia.[1] According to Pausanias Sini's pine was still alive and known during his times.
Question: As a lumberjack you attach 50 foot wire from a top of a leaning pine tree to a stake in the ground? forming a 70 degree angle with the ground. You then measure the distance along the ground from the stake to the center of the tree base. Determine the length of the tree What law or theorem should you use?
Law of Sines
Law of Cosines
Pythagorean Theorem
Quadratic formula
Answer: why didn't you measure the stupid tree when you went up it to tie the 50 foot wire? we'll call that a logic problem.
Question: Do I separate the trunks on a leland cypress pine before I plant in the ground? ? I bought this at a grocery store and didn't notice that this one plant had 4 trunks that are really close together. It would make sense to split them up to put them in the ground, but it makes me wonder why it's the way it is right now. It's in a 6 inch pot, about a foot high.
Answer: They tend to grow with multiple trunks. If it seems to separate easily, you could try splitting it. Otherwise, maybe prune off the two weakest leaders, and wait to see which of the remaining two is the strongest. They tend to grow a bit thin when they're young, but will fill out with time.
Question: I had several pine stumps ground, is it ok to use the pine chips left over for mulch?
Answer: I beg to differ.. pine wood on the ground spells termite smorgasboard. RE-THINK this. Bark is fine, wood is not. Bark is the outer layer that protects the tree from bugs.. what they want is inside the bark.. the wood.
Wood decomposition also tends to tie up a lot of Nitrogen.. plan to fertilize more if you use it.
If you use it.. use it WELL away from your house.
Question: Do the endless questions about the Ground Zero mosque make you pine for some good old 2012 questions again?
Answer: If it's August, Fox News is inciting riots
Question: Does it damage a pine tree when you remove lower branches that drag and lay on the ground?
Answer: No it's is fine to remove them. We have a bunch around our house and we trimmed them all last summer and they're still fine.

Okay, I worked all the formulae/theorems and found that the correct answer was B. Law of Cosines!
Answer: Draw a diagram. You should have a right-angle triangle, for which you know:
The hypotenuse (50 feet)
One other side (distance from the stake to the tree)
The angles (90° 70° 20°).
There are actually a couple of ways you can find the missing side.
The pythagorean formula might be simplest, but you might like to try each equation in turn, and see which ones work.
Question: I have cut down several pine trees in my yard, and would love to kill the roots that are above ground every? where, something that rot the root.
Answer: We had the same problem, with pine wilt, lost two big 40 footers. I planted a rose garden.
There are companies that have a root grinder machine that digs everthing up like compost. We had it done in the back yard and then I put in a flower bed with a red maple tree. Doing Great!
