Female Regulator
Question: Why does is my 7805 5V voltage regulator "overheating?"? I have a 7805 5V voltage regulator soldered to a female USB port and a 9V battery pack. The soldering is all fine, I've checked it many times. When I connect a 9V battery to the battery pack, the voltage output is 5V (according to my digital multimeter). However, within a couple seconds, the voltage regulator becomes incredibly hot.
Is this normal, or will it damage the voltage regulator? If not, how should I fix it?
Answer: I depends how much current your circuit is drawing. Let's say it is 500 mA, then the voltage regulator is absorbing (9-5) x 0.5 = 2 W and will get hot, especially if you don't use a heat sink. Measure the current that your circuit is drawing and once you decide that it's normal and there is no short, simply mount a heat sink. The voltage regulator will still absorb the same wattage but now the arrangement has a lower thermal resistance to ambient air will not get quite as hot, thereby extending the life of your voltage regulator.
Question: Need to connect a BBQ to a butane gas bottle. Which hose and regulator will attach to a 20mm attachment on BBQ Hi. I bought a barbecue in France yesterday which is a twin hob gas model. It is recommended for use with Butane between 28 and 30 mbar.
The problem is, it didn't come with a hose or regulator - just a female threaded "socket" which is about 20mm across for a hose with a spigot on the end to screw onto (and into). The gas bottle is a standard 7kg Calor gas bottle. What do I need to attach the BBQ to the bottle? I need a gas hose about 45cm long minimum, and I suppose a 20mm male spigot with a nut to tighten it. Is it a European standard size? Do they all attach to the same size regulator? Thanks.
Answer: Ask your local gas retailer as they are experts in this kind of thing
Question: My gas dryer was converted but now I need to find a 3/8" gas hose connector for it's 3/8" female gas pipe.? Along of course with a gas regulator with 1/2 psi. I can't find it anywhere. Is it even the same tread? Please help me find a gas regulator that fits behind my gas dryer since I need to run it straight from a propane tank.
Answer: Take the part to Home Depot. Go to plumbing department. Press the little red button for HELP! An associate will and can show you exactly what you need. Don't forget to use teflon tape.
Question: What Do I Need to Make my Propane Fireplace Work? Bought a brand new house about 3 months ago and tried to hook up a propane tank outside today to try and see if the lines leak and if the fireplace works. However, I the male nozzle on the outside of my house is smaller than the female end on both the propane tank and the regulator I bought .. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas. I know I could call a LP dealer, but I was trying to DIY.
Answer: Call the propane co, propane isn,t some thing to mess with, its very flamable
if you mess it up your insurance won,t cover any thing,
Question: I bought a propane tank for my pop up camper? We tried to hook up the propane tank to the regulator on my pop up. It looks as though I made need some sort of adapter because the tank and the regulator seem to have the same "female" part. Is there some sort of "male" adapter?
Answer: Yes you should be able to get one at your local hardware store.
Question: Fixing voltage regulator on 01 r6? I found out that my voltage regulator was burned and the harness end that was connected to it. I can not find the reason why that happened. I ordered a new one and i plan to just take insulated female disconnects and slide connect the wires to the new regulator. I suppose that would work fine right? I could not find any wires grounding out that would cause this problem. Maybe it just got wet. I just would like for this not to happen again. Any suggestions on if theres a better way to fix this or how the problem happened.
Answer: You're right to be concerned about the original cause of the failure. Though it's rare, a diode may have failed short, causing all kinds of havoc. Any number of components could have failed short, causing a sustained current flow that burned the wiring harness. You could take the regulator apart and see if there's a particular spot that the burning seems to have come from. It is also possible that a connection came loose at that harness and arced repeatedly until it gave up the ghost. If you're certain that the wiring external to the regulator is good then you may be safe putting the new one in.
Question: How to make a USB solar charger? ive tried doing this before but when i did it didnt work...i have a 5v regulator, 6v solar panel, soldering iron, and a female usb...can anyone give me a diagram on how to make this and good instructions on how to do it?

Question: Scenario/Another Tippmann A5 Mod?!? I've been trying to find the best way to run my A5 without upgrading to Nitro, I just can't afford it on top of the other mod projects I have going on. My Question is, could I run an e-grip with a selector switch with a palmers female regulator mounted directly to the bottom of the e-grip conecting my CO2 via remote. My main concern is that the e-grip and the regulator wouldn't be compatible with each other (without a drop down that is). This is all based off of speculations, I've been deployed in the desert for a while so I can't really dive into it and just start experimenting with different mods until I get back, it's all online research. If anyone has a simple solution or even a simple yes or no I would greatly appreciate it. Maybe some pics if it's even possible.
Good idea, I will consider a male but I was planning on running a gas through mag kit and connect the bottomline to the female just for looks. Thanks for the input.
Answer: You could also just attach a Palmer's male Stabilizer to the tombstone, run a line to the ASA, and connect the remote to the ASA. The tombstone has ASA threading.
Question: vintage dodge charging system? i have a 1976 dodge truck. i was looking at the charging system and it doesnt make much sense to me.....
the alternator has 2 connections that goes to the regulator <female/male plug in>. the third wire is the biggest one and is bolted on to the alternator. that wire seems to be the main one and goes directly to the amp meter and back to the battery. when i measure the voltage at idle on only the alternator wire, it puts out 20volts. when i connect it onto the battery its putting out 12.3 volts. Is this setup normal for old dodges?
Answer: Completely normal for that year Dodge. Or, it's a close to normal as a Chrysler product electrical system ever was.
Question: Can you charge a Zune using 6 volts? Hello, I am currently making a small circuit board which will allow me to charge my zune on the go using a 9v battery... I have all the correct parts (9v battery connector, female usb connector, voltage regulator). BUT the problem is I could not find a 5v voltage regulator so I bought a 6 volt regulator. Now I know the Zune only takes 5 volts, so if I try plugging it in to my set up will it short circuit or blow up (that being the board itself). I really need to know before I pop it in and give it a try only to find out it screws up everything. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thank you in advanced!
Answer: 5 volt voltage regulators are probably the most common regulator made. LM7805 is one of the most common.
It may work, probably will, with 6 volts, but I can't say for sure. Do you want to take that chance?
Get a 7805. If you can't, try this:
put a diode in series with the 6 volt supply, that will reduce it to about 5.3 or 5.4 volts. Still no guarantee, but a better chance of not doing any damage.
.
Question: how to charge batteries? can i charge a battery in serial or does it have to be parallel?
- I'm trying to make a custom charger for my MP3. i need five rechargeable NiMH batteries at 1.2 V each for a total of 6V.
- then it goes through a 5V regulator and into a female usb plug.
- can i charge the batteries in series with 6 V or does it have to be 1.2V charged in series.
- or can it not be charged in series and i have to charge it in parallel at 1.2 V.
- then my next question is can i charge a battery in parallel at 1.2V and use it in series at 6V with diodes so they don't sort shortage, at the same time.
- also if i can't charge in series then why do some phones charge in series? phone batteries are in series and are changeable. so can you charge batteries and series?
also if i can't charge in series then how do car batteries charge? car batteries are six 2V in series and they charge in 12V so how can car batteries charge in serial?
Answer: NiMH batteries do not like to be overcharged. Most of the better commercial chargers charge them individually although some charge them in pairs. They also monitor for the telltale little voltage dip that is indicative of a full charge.
The first link has information about a charge controller chip that you can use to build a charger for your 5 cell pack.
Your second challenge is regulating your 6 volt pack to produce 5 volts as your pack goes from 6.25 volts fully charged to 5 volts with the cells nearly depleted. A common 7805 type regulator requires an input voltage about two volts higher than the desired output voltage. There are "low drop out" types that require less but you still won't be able to use the full capacity of your pack before it goes out of regulation.
There are switching regulator designs based on chips such as the MC34063A that you may consider but they are much more complex.

Question: Will the iPod nano (4th generation) charge on a homemade charger? I built a iPod charger based on an instructable online. It's a simple 9v battery hooked to a 5v regulator going to a female USB port. I double checked my wiring and checked the output and it is 5v like it should be. I read online that without some extra fancy things, that I wouldn't even go into, an iPhone or iPod touch won't charge. When I plug my iPod 4th generation into the device the backlight turns on, but it doesn't show it is charging. Is this just another Apple attempt to force us to buy their own products or did I do something wrong?
Answer: no you effed up
an Apple CSR told me that iPods self adjust to the voltage they are connected to do it's you, YDI (you deserved it) for being cheap with DIY
you can afford an iPhone, iTouch, and a nano
if you wanna be cheap then just buy like a $10 one at WalMart

Question: Is this political correctness gone mad? LONDON (AFP) - Smoking scenes in "Tom and Jerry" cartoons are now banned in Britain, following a viewer's complaint to the government agency that polices the airwaves.
In one episode of the classic US cartoon series, Tom is seen smoking a roll-up cigarette in a bid to impress a female cat. In another, Tom's opponent in a tennis match was seen smoking a large cigar.
Following an investigation prompted by the anonymous viewer's complaint, regulator Ofcom said Monday that children's TV channel Boomerang has agreed to edit out scenes deemed to glamorise or condone smoking.
"We note that, in 'Tom and Jerry', smoking usually appears in a stylised manner and is frequently not condoned," said Ofcom, recalling how the cartoons were made in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s when smoking was not so controversial.

Answer: Oh yes, we have to eliminate the smoking idea.
Ignore the fact that all episodes involve repeated violent attacks on poor tom, From feet getting blown up, frozen alive, kicked stopmed, axed, mashed grinded
Any other violence I have missed?????
Question: Platy with clamped fins? I have a female platy with two other female platies in the tank. I also have 2 cory catfish and 2 otto catfish, along with a snail and a few aquarium plants. The size of the tank is a 20 gallon and the temperature is 70 degrees F. A water change was done about a day ago. pH level is normal.
The problem is, she has been having clamped fins for a while. I thought maybe the water wasn't the way she wanted it, so I do water changes every 5 days, and I put in stability (kinda like BioSpira) and pH regulator powder each time.
I don't know what could be wrong in the tank, and I don't know why she isn't happy. Maybe the nitrates are messed up, but the pH regulator removes those too. I may bring in a bit of water for the pet shop to sample.
What could be wrong and what can I do so she is happy again?
Answer: as simple as that
you don't add biospira, but only a water conditioner
and you NEVER play around with the pH
stable pH is more important then correct pH
the fish will adapt to it
start doing only 25% weekly partial waterchanges with a gravel siphon and treat the water with water conditioner before putting it in
also raise your temperature up to 76-78 degrees, she/he might be cold
feel free to contact me
hope that helps
Good luck

Question: Why is my leopard gecko sleepy? My female leopard gecko is not very lively. It seems so just sit in its cave all day (obviously as they are nocturnal) but then only comes out around midnight but not for very long and just walks around slowly. She is in a big glass terrarium from ZooMed and heated with a heat mat and temperature regulator at the recomended times. She eats mainly meal worms and occassionally crickets and locusts which are always sprinkled with a vitamin supplement powder from ZooMed. She has one moist hide with calcium in it and another hide the opposite side of the tank, one is heated, the other is not. She is always in the heated side. I was wondering how i could get her to become a bit more lively as she is only nearly 2 years old. Would another female gecko keep her occupied and more active? Does she need letting out for exercise? is there anything wrong with her or am i doing anything wrong? Thanks
Answer: DO NOT get another female and put it with her. Leos prefer to be alone! It sounds likes shes just cold. Bump up the temp a bit more and see what happens. Are you sure your heating pad is working good? They can become faulty after a few years. Also you should look into getting some roachs. There alot better for reptiles then crickets or locus. My two are in love with them! more then mealies or even wax worms!! As long as shes got a fat tail dont worry to much. Just bump up the temp and see what happens. Youd be supprised what a few degrees will do.
If you got another female and put it with her there'd be a domance struggle. One would win and get all the food. and the other would get little. Some females can live together but yours is already 2 and has been alone. Leave her in her own tank without another.
What are you using for substraight? If shes on something loose like sand then get her off! sand is bad when ingested. Its not like there natural home either. Get tile and put it over a inch or so of sand. Itll help greatly with temptuer too. its also very easy to keep clean.
Also when there adults they dont need much exercise. and they do tend to laz around
feel free to message me if you need any help or if youd like the link to the roachs i use. (100 for 22 bucks)
Question: Please check grammar of a short paragraph.? I am not good with grammar so please help. The limit is less than 250 words. It's just a summary article. So thesis statement and paragraph forms are limited. Not meant to be an essay. Thanks.
The article “The Desire and Pursuit of the Whole” by Armand Leroi claims what makes one embryo a male or female is dependent on the sex determine region on the Y chromosome (the SRY region). Mishaps can occur during the development of a fetus when there is an extra X or Y chromosomes present. People like Abel Harbin and Lynn Harris, are example hermaphrodites who struggle to live a normal life as teenagers. Nevertheless, they have to accept their lives as the gender that the society gives them. People with a XXY, XXXY, or XXXXY genetic mutations will have reproductive organs of both male and female. However, an X or Y chromosome is not the only determining factor of one’s sexual orientation. Aromatase, an enzyme regulator of estrogen and testosterone, will cause boys to have breasts and girls to have beards. Also, the lack of an enzyme called 5-beta-reductase will cause a person to produce less testosterone. For some, they will not go through the stages of puberty or show secondary sex characteristics later in life. The second part of the reading “Interview With the Hermaphrodite: The Many Face of Lynn Harris” describes the struggle of Harris growing up as a girl. Even though he is raised a girl he now considers himself as a man. As a society, we tend to go with the norm and gender identification based on sexual orientation and this can be devastating to the development of a person.

Think that's all right. I changed a few sentences' wording to make them sound better. I hope I didn't screw up any facts because I don't actually know anything about biology.
Question: I need help with my cat!!!!? One of my female cats(my persian) has a lot of sores on her from the fleas she had and still has. My boyfriend is bringing her to me friday because he is going to be moving in with me so we are taking care of the cats first. The last time I gave her a bath with flea spray, she wound up bleeding because of the sores and I didn't even rub her hard.
What I am asking is, will shaving the rest of hair off help her heal?
Will the flea shampoo that I have help with the sores? I bought this flea shampoo from Pets Mart and it has an IGR(insect growth regulator) in it that kills the fleas instantly and all the eggs on the animal also.
Or, is there anything else I can do that will kill the fleas and the eggs? I am not using Dawn because it doesn't kill the eggs. I know this from experience.
Any opinions will help. Right now I don't have the money to take them to the vet because I recently lost my job and that's why my boyfriend is moving in with to help me out while I look for another job. So please don't tell me to take them to a vet because I know I need too but I am not a money bags person and I can't afford everything.
Answer: You get get them flea drops from a vet. You don't need an appointment, you just walk in and tell them you need frontline or advantage for cats. All you need to know is if your cat is under or over 9 pounds. She may be allergic to flea bites. My cat is. When he gets the sores, I have to take him to the vet for a shot and antibiotics. Shaving her really won't do anything. Good luck
Question: Genetics Question? I'm doing miserably in genetics at the moment and my exam is tomorrow :( we've been given some true or false questions to practise with with no answers and i'm really struggling if anyone could help me out just say whether these statements are true or false!
1 All X chromosomes passed on by a female will be different
2 A parent can pass on both their alleles at a locus to a single child because of crossing over
3 A heterozygous ade+/ade- yeast diploid will produce asci with a 3:1 ratio of ade+:ade- haploid ascospores
4 Two human genes 1 000 000 base pairs apart will cross over approximately once every hundred generations, or 25 000 years
5 A 5:1 ratio of fertilised zygotes could still be compatible with mendelian genetics of a single gene
6 The coding sequence of a gene after a single base deletion will be translated as out-of-frame ‘gibberish’.
7 A protein that acts to down-regulate gene expression is known as a negaticve regulator
Any help at all would be great! thank u!
Answer: 1..A female only has 2 types of x chromosomes to pass on. They are passed on by ramdom chance like anly other chromosome.
2. A parent can pass on both alleles at a locus to a single child and if the zygote survives it will have down syndrome. This has nothing to to with crossingover.
3. this is simply mendalian genetics. You need to do your own Xi Square box.
4. Sorry, I don't remember the formula for distance and crossovers.
5. Technically yes, but in theory no.
6. Not all mutations should be gibberish
7. Sorry, don't know the answer offhand.
Question: Needing High-Pressure shower head? My female friend and I are huge fans of a good shower. That entails a shower head with high pressure! We are getting pretty sick of our current one and I tried to modify it by taking out the regulator, but it's built in. And I don't have metal drill bits to drill into, to make its insides less lo-flow. So I figure I'll just buy one.
I came from Ace hardware and Home Depot today and asked the helpers, but they are really just regular people (though they probably were/are plumbers) without "shower head experience" and who is, anyway? They had no clue which shower head provided the most pressure.
The best info I figured out was: Usually the smaller shower head, the higher water pressure. And expensive ones are not generally better. (Maybe prettier, but that's about it)
Anyone know of any specific shower heads that have great pressure? Or any websites? Or know of any "Shower head review'er guy"?
Answer: I have a Water-pic head with a lot of settings for different spray patterns. Even with lower house water pressure, it will drive you against the wall.
