Dwarf Cherry
Question: Is there a such thing as a dwarf cherry tree?A dwarf raspberry tree? I am going to start my container garden next year.
I still have my mom's gardening magazine.I saw the dwarf blueberry tree and I am definately going to get it. I also saw the Northpole apples.Northpole apples grow on stalks instead of trees and can fit in a big pot.
Is there a such thing as a dwarf cherry tree?
Is there a such thing as a dwarf raspberry tree?
Answer: Perhaps a dwarf cherry tree, but raspberries grown on bushes/vines. You may be able to keep trimming a raspberry until it develops a trunk. A neighbor did that with a wisteria vine, since they have such pretty flowers. He changed a wild plant into a small tree in his front yard, but he has to constantly trim the tree or it sends out vines.
Question: Does any one have any experience with growing dwarf cherry trees? I'd like to plant a dwarf cherry tree in my back yard. I live in nyc which is zone 6.
Answer: With zone 6, you will have a lot of choices. For cooler zones, like 4-5, the Bali cherry is all the rage. It is quite hardy, self-fertile, and starts producing heavy yields in 2-3 years. It should grow fine where you are--I think zone 4-5 is just the minimum for this tree. St. Lawrence nursery and Fedco trees both sell it, but it's too late to order from them for this year. Miller nurseries also has a good selection, but I don't know if they carry the Bali.
As you browse nurseries, read the descriptions of the trees carefully to see if they are hardy to zone 6, self-fertile, dwarf, and disease-resistant. If they are precocious bearers, that's a plus as well.
Question: When do dwarf cherry trees produce cherries? We planted a self pollinating dwarf cherry tree three years ago and since then has not produced cherries or has grown at all? The tree is about 4 feet tall when we bought it and still the same height. Is there some we can give to grow or produce fruit?
Answer: check the sales brochure as for when it should start producing, the tree may need some fertilizer to help it produce.
Question: where is the best place to buy a dwarf weeping cherry tree? I'm wanting to buy and plant a dwarf weeping cherry tree -- Is there anything I should be concerned about?
Answer: The best place to buy any tree is a good quality garden centre.
The only issue we had with our dwarf cherry tree was that it did not produce much blossom. If you intend to grow it for fruit, I gather that you'll have to do something to stop the birds eating the cherries.
Question: Does anyone know how to grow dwarf cherry trees? I want to grow a Rainer Cherry and a Bing Cherry Tree. but I need to know how close to grow them. Do I need to have them close to polinate?
Answer: i have several dwarf trees, apple and cherry, and they need to be at least 10 feet apart. if you go to web site starkbros.com and the bottom left click on growing guide, then fruit trees, then click on planning fruit trees and finally click on space for the future it shows the space for all size trees.
Question: Where can I buy fruiting (2-3 yrs old) dwarf cherry trees online? I want to buy a cherry tree that is already producing fruit, but a dwarf variety.
Answer: The trees you are going to find, even at the nursery will usually be too young to produce the first year. Nursery trees are generally the same trees that are sold mail order but mail order are cut shorter for shipping. Unless you buy large potted trees which are expensive.
As for online. I have been buying from Gurney's Seed and Nursery for almost 40 yr. My grandfather bought from them since the 1920's.
Stark Bros. is also very good as is Gurney's sister company Henry Field. Jung's in Wisconsin. All excellent in my experience. Be advised Sweet Cherries require two trees for pollination.
You might try bush cherries. They are really shrubs and produce quite a bit of fruit. Great for preserves and freezing
Question: I have bought a feathered dwarf cherry tree. I want to grow it in a big pot in a fan shape against the fence.? At the moment it is about 5 ft high, it only has 2 branches at the top of the tree. If I put it in the middle of the pot it will be a distance away from the fence. Do I lean it toward the fence when I plant it. Also will the buds that are growing down the trunk turn into branches which I can then train into the fan shape. Advice needed please.
Answer: They grow towards the sunlight.
Question: What would you name a female dwarf cherry headed tortoise? Unique answers please!
Answer: Lol...Torkoal. :B http://www.serebii.net/potw/Torkoal-Anim…
Question: What is the average growth rate of a dwarf cherry tree? I don't know the specific variety
Answer: I planted a Lapin exactly two years ago when it was almost five feet tall. Last summer it had ten cherries, and was seven feet tall, although it only had five branches. This spring it has over 60 blossoms, lots of baby branches stretching out, and is over seven feet tall. This is only my experience, but it should give you an idea...
Question: I planted a dwarf cherry tree about 4 weeks ago and a few of the leaves are turning yellow - is it dying? I'm not sure how old it is, it's about 6 feet high at the very top. I have clay-type soil so I mixed some Pro Mix with the soil and have kept it well-watered (I think).
Answer: Cherry trees don't tolerate wet feet. If you have clay soil, and the drainage is poor - it's possible you could be overwatering.
Give it a slow deep water about twice a week. If in doubt...dig down a little with your finger (use a tool if you can't simply shove your finger down there.) With your finger inserted up to the knuckle...if the tip of your finger can feel moisture in the soil...don't water.
Do NOT water every day. You'll most likely drown it.
Question: Cherry barbs and dwarf gourami in 10 gallon ? Can I keep 6 cherry barbs and 1 dwarf gourami in a 10 gallon tank.
If so, should I keep it densely planted? I only have plastic plants but I have tons.
And should I have caves and stuff?
Answer: Your tank is big enough and cherry barbs and dwarf gourami sounds great....but be careful with plastic plants because they might have some sharp edges. Densely planted real plants would be best.
Caves are not important as they are not likely to go in there but one or two rocks would be okay.
Question: can a dwarf gourami be kept with cherry barbs? I have an empty 10 gallon that is currently cycling, I was just wondering if I would be able to keep a school (6) cherry barbs with a male dwarf gourami in it ?
but would they be okay in a 10 gallon ?
Answer: It sounds good to me, you shouldn't have any problems where compatibility is concerned.
Question: Can I "dwarf" my "dwarf" cherry tree? I just found out that the "dwarf" Garden Bing cherry tree I bought will grow to 8 ft in the ground. What happens if I just cut it off at the height I want, say 4 ft or 6 ft? What happens to any tree if you just cut it off at a "desirable" height?
Answer: Hey Pregnin,
If you cut it at the same height each time, nodes /branches will form at the point of the cut and become this years growth. That type of pruning is "Heading", and results in balls of branches clumped together.
You can accomplish what you are trying to do by pinching all new buds that look like they are pointing up, and by "Thinning" when you prune. "Thinning", unlike "Heading" will not cause the Ball of branches look, so your tree will be pruned, but not look like it. A "Thinning" cut is made so that you look at the branches that stick out the furthest or tallest, and cut them where they connect to the trunk or bigger branch. Care should be taken to cut them just above the "Collar" so the cut will heal over, but you don't leave a "stick" thrusting out from the branch. The "Thinning" prune will look very natural, and you can control your tree height.
While you are pinching the new buds, be sure to let the horizontal branches pointing outward grow! As they grow outward, your height growth will have less of the root systems support.
Pruning is a lot of experience and learning. You just started down that path. The tree will look like what you do to it!
Question: How much does the root bulb grow on dwarf weeping cherry tree?
Answer: The dwarf cherry tree root ball will be the size of a normal tree because a dwarf cherry will still be 20 feet high rather than 40-60 ft high.
Question: When should I plant a North Star Pie Cherry Dwarf Tree? I'm thinking about buying a Cherry tree but I'm not sure if I need to plant it in the springtime or anytime of year. I live in Kentucky and the hardness level here is 6A. Should I wait for spring, or get it now? Thanks.
Answer: If you have one in a container, already growing, go ahead and plant. Fall is an excellent time for planting trees! If you are ordering from a nursery, probably you won't receive the tree until next spring as a bare root tree.
Question: Will dwarf chain loachs get along with cherry shrimp and ottos? I currently have 3 ottos and 3 red cherry shrimp. Will 4 dwarf chain loaches get along with all of them. Also will they get along with glolite tetras and harlequin rasboas.
Answer: I think that there will be a problem between loashes and shrimp, I know that loashes like to squeeze out snails and shrimp can be also food for them, it's scary to keep them together as for me. Tetras are fine.
learn about it here. good luck

Question: Where can I find a dwarf weeping cherry tree in the Metro Detroit area??? I found some weeping pussy willows @ Lowe's near 23 Mile in Chesterfield, MI, but that tree looks too skimpy plus I love the color of cherry trees. Question: Will African dwarf frogs eat red cherry shrimp? I have read that african dwarf frogs eat shrimps. Does that include red cherry? I wanted to just make sure with you guys!
Answer: If it is small, and moves, and they can catch it, they will eat it. They're not the brightest bulbs. Mine sometimes latch onto each other thinking that the other frog is food.
I wouldn't suggest getting any shrimp to put with frogs unless you intend to have fat frogs and no shrimp. There's a chance that the shrimp might be too fast for the frogs, but I wouldn't count on it. They'd still probably be slowly caught and eaten.
Question: I just bought a dwarf bing cherry tree. How long will it take to bear fruit?
Answer: usually it takes 2 to 3 years to see fruit from most fruit trees or grape vines
