Cystine
Question: photos of the cystine chapel? I would like to see pictures of the ceiling of this chapel, are there any out there ?
Answer: Sistine, dear... Michelangelo is rolling over in his grave right now.
Search Google Images for pictures, but remember that the entire chapel is painted. The ceiling is magnificent, but to get a better sense of the room, you should also look at the paintings on the walls. The wall behind the altar shows Judgement Day and is rather gruesome, an interesting comparison to the heavens depicted above.
Remember that each little "compartment" of the ceiling shows a different part of the Bible. It's recently been restored and you'll see rectangles of dark color here and there throughout the ceiling. The dark squares were areas left untouched by conservationists so that you can get a sense of how it looked without restoration.
Enjoy!
Question: Looking for people who pass cystine stones (cystinuria)? Hello,
I am looking for someone who produces cystine stones. I am working with a university laboratory to do some research on kidney stones. We are happy to compensate for stones donated,
Thank you
Answer: Cystinuria as you know results from a failure of reabsorptive transport in the proximal tubule as a result of two gene encoding mutations.
Children at risk can usually be identified after age 2. Because of the risk of renal damage, some clinicians choose to use prophylaxis (preventative medicine) with agents that form mixed disulfides with the cystine.
I do not know that much about this however cysteine is an essential dietary element to maintain our immunity, detoxify, and the bodies only natural internal antioxidant.
Since cysteine is made of two cystine molecules bound together with a sulfa hydroxyl group of molecules and cystine is basically a poison and as such, normally our bodies expel it, it got me to wondering.
It might create some interesting research fodder to consider if there was a glutathione and or cysteine connection.
From there you might be able to go backwards and find alternative ways to treat and care for this problem.
There are some wonderful things on the frontiers on knowledge related to treating many diseases by boosting Glutathione levels. In many states, the treatment may be covered by Insurance for our kids. Since the only approved method of boosting GSH in pediatric patients (in the Physicians Desk Reference) is all natural and not a drug, there are almost no side effects and few contraindications.
Dr Bunos at McGill and Dr Jimmy Guttman are two of the leading experts on the subject.
Just a thought, hope it helps.

Question: what factors affects the quantity/concentration of cystine using HPLC?
Answer: The quantity or concentration of cystine, or any other analyte, will be dependant on the concentration in the sample, not the analytical method.
Question: What common structural feature of the four amino acids-cystine,ornithine, lysine and arginine-is recognized by
Answer: I think the question is incomplete.
If the question is what is the common feature of their structure, the answer is their similarity in -R group. Ornithine and lysine only differ by a single methylene(-CH2) group. Cystine has less -CH2 group where the N is replaced by less electronegative S atom. Argenine also has similar polar positively charged R group in physiological pH like ornithine and lysine.
None has benzene ring!!!!
Question: Is human hair used in food products? L-cystine: truth or urban legend?
Answer: It only gets into the food if you dont wear a hairnet. Can't imagine anyone trying to swallow a hair on purpose.Unless it has been quietly passed down from the cavemen.
Question: what are the factors (temperature,pressure..) affecting the concentration of cystine using HPLC?
Answer: What are you measuring?
In our GC experiments, we noticed that cysteine tended to oxidize in the air. Not sure if that helps any.
Question: cystinuria or cystine stones? Does anyone else have this?
Answer: aka cystitis and kidney stones, many millions of people have suffered with this.

Question: What are the following substances and what is their utility? Even if you will not answer utility its ok but tell me what is it?
1)cystine
2)methionine
3)idioblast
Answer: 1)CYSTINE
Cystine is the amino acid dimer formed when a pair of cysteine molecules are joined by a disulfide bond. It is described by the formula (SCH2CH(NH2)CO2H)2. It is a colorless solid, and melts at 247-249 °C.
USES
cystine is used for the preparation of oral medicinal products for the prevention and treatment of oxidative stress resulting from haemodialysis treatment in patients suffering from chronic kidney failure as well as for the treatment and prevention of acute or chronic kidney diseases and of End-Stage Renal Disease.
2)METHIONINE
Methionine is an α-amino acid with the chemical formula HO2CCH(NH2)CH2CH2SCH3. This essential amino acid is classified as nonpolar.
USES
Methionine is an essential amino acid that is used as a supplement for liver support, osteoarthritis, depression, fibromyalgia, schizophrenia, migraine headaches, Parkinson's disease, and to increase bile flow.
3)IDIOBLAST
a specialized plant cell that differs from others in the same area of tissue. An idioblast is usually thick-walled and lacks chlorophyll.
USES
Systematic anatomists have made wide use of idioblasts in the char- acterization of species, genera and families in the dicotyledons
Question: l-acetyl cystine information? i am taking l-acetyl cystine powder as a dietery suppliment it has positive effect on health dose 200 mg daily i wounder if it is the precurser of arginine which is transferd to nitous oxide that help in opning more new vessels that help in rejuvination and has anti aging propertis any added information is welcomed
Answer: The answers are yes, no, no,and no.
l-acetyl cystine can act as a precursor for arginine. Arginine can be a donor of the nitro group when body needs to produce NO2, but will only do it on as needed basis, so no amount of precursor will force body to produce more NO than it needs.
NO2 anyway only dilates preexisting vessels and does not act in making new ones.
When explaining any dietary supplements to my patients I always use this image - if you buy a truckload of bricks, you will not have bigger house. A) you need much more than just bricks, and B) more importantly, you need a very capable site-master to oversee the project.
Unfortunately, there are no site-masters in pills.
However, and I mean in really seriously, if you feel NAC is making you feel better, by all means carry on taking it - all in all anything that makes our stay on this planet more enjoyable is worth it!
Question: what is the difference of cysteine and cystine??? thanks so much for answering?
Answer: Cystine is an amino acid that is a dimer of two cysteine molecules.

Question: L-Alanine,L-Arginine,L-Aspartic acid,L-Cystine,L-Glutamic Acid,L-Glycine,L-Histidine,L-Isoleucine,… L-Lysine,L-Methionine,L-Phenylalanine,L-…
Are there any natural sources for all of them and what is their destination.
Which one potect from Cancer?
Answer: all meats, eggs, milk are a natural source of all these amino acids. With whole egg being the best and whey protein isolate being the next best. Proteins are catergorized by thier BV bioavailablity to the body. Egg has 100 that means if you eat a whole egg it is 100 percent digestible and absorbable in the body. Next is Whey protien which is what most body buildiers use because of low cholesterial and the bodydoesn't have to break the food down it is pure amino acids. Next is fish then chicken and last is beef with about 60 percet BV. I have been doing a lot of research on these acids for a while. they all have purpose and job and they are all differnt sizes. Some acids are realy big and some are small and the big ones get top priority leaving small ones like tryptophan crying alone. Tryptophan is realy improtnat cause it creates serotonin which makes melatonin the drug that makes you sleep. without you can get depressed and cranky and have sleep problelms. Arginine is good for hte heart cause it makes nitrous oxide it also create growht hormone. http://users.mrbean.net.au/~wlast/HF3-4.…
that site will give you alot of information.
some do protect against cancer and some taken alone can cuse cancer like aspartame which is EQAUL and phylanine which is also in EQUAL. There is no problem when eating htem together like if whole foods but problelms cand result when eating thme alone.
Question: What is cysteine/cystine?
Answer: Cysteine is a naturally occurring, sulfur-containing amino acid that is found in most proteins, although only in small quantities. Cysteine is unique amongst the twenty natural amino acids as it contains a thiol group. Thiol groups can undergo oxidation/reduction (redox) reactions; when cysteine is oxidised it can form cystine, which is two cysteine residues joined by a disulfide bond. This reaction is reversible: as reduction of this disulphide bond regenerates two cysteine molecules. The disulphide bonds of cystine are crucial to defining the structures of many proteins.
Cysteine is often involved in electron-transfer reactions, and help the enzyme catalyse its reaction. Cysteine is also part of the antioxidant glutathione.
N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC) is a form of cysteine where an acetyl group is attached to cysteine's nitrogen atom and is sold as a dietary supplement. Cysteine is named after cystine, which comes from the Greek word kustis meaning bladder − cystine was first isolated from kidney stones.

Answer: Why on earth would you come to Yahoo with this type of question? Chances are that no one here is a doctor OR pharmacist, and getting the wrong answer could be very dangerous (I just saw answers to a medical question where the respondants were giving the exact OPPOSITE of what is medically recommended for a caffeine overdose).
Call your doctor or pharmacist, or at the very least check out the Roaccutane info sheet:

Question: apparently the amino acid called CYSTEINE is supposed to great...? ...in minimizing the debilitating effects of hangovers. is the similarly spelt amino acid CYSTINE as effective or are they very different.
Answer: Alcohol (Ethyl Alcohol) in alcoholic beverages produces acetaldehyde and acetic acid in the intestinal mucosa and the liver. The Acetaldehyde depresses mitochondrial electron transport in neurons which causes weakness, lethargy, and "hang-over."
Cysteine can oxidize acetaldehyde to acetic acid, which does not have CNS suppressing activities, so yeah, it works, at least theoretically.
Cystine is an oxidized form of cysteine which can be reduced to cysteine by coupling it to the oxidation of another substance, ie. acetaldehyde, since oxidation-reduction is always coupled, so I think it should work just as well if not better
Question: Question for Doctors? Is the following supplement safe Hi Docs,
I have just bought this Hair Growth 37 formula off the net. It's not FDA approved and some of the ingredients are slightly concerning as I have never heard of them and not sure of the intake:
Manganese: 10 MG daily
PABA: 60 MG daily
Lots of Ls...:
L - Leucine: 1500 daily
L-Isoleucine: 600 mg daily
L- Methionine: 1300 mg
L - Threonine: 600 mg daily
L-Alamine: 700 mg daily
L- Cystine: 1000 mg daily
L-tyrosine 600 mg daily
L- Aspartic Acid 1500 mg daily
I would rather not take it at all if it will have any negative affects on my health or liver. Can a doctor please advise?
Best wishes
Answer: Yes, they are all safe dietary supplements, assuming you are a perfectly healthy adult and you follow the dosage instructions.
However, I would not recommend taking supplements off the internet. You have no idea where they are made. Possibly in China, which has a lot of problems with contamination with toxic substances. Also, you can't even be certain that what's written on the label is indeed in the bottle (this is a very common problem with vitamins and supplements).
If you want to take these supplements, you are better off going to your local health food store and buying the ingredients separately.
Do not buy any supplements that are manufactured in a third world country, otherwise you are setting yourself up for trouble.
Before you select your supplements, research the brand name, research the manufacturer... you would want supplements that are made in the USA, Canada or Europe. Some Japanese brands are reputable as well, stay away from Chinese made stuff.
Manganese: is an essential trace element, (essential means that your body cannot produce it, your body needs it and you must get it from food or vitamin supplements). It is concentrated in cell mitochondria, mostly in the pituitary gland, liver, pancreas, kidney, and bone.
PABA: is an essential nutrient for some bacteria but not for humans. A member of the vitamin B complex. It used to be a common sunscreening agent until found to also be a sensitizer. It is used therapeutically in fibrotic skin disorders.
L-Leucine: is an essential branched chain amino acid, important in building skeletal muscle tissue and for hemoglobin formation.
L-Isoleucine: An essential branched-chain aliphatic amino acid found in many proteins. It is important in hemoglobin synthesis and regulation of blood sugar and energy levels.
L-Methionine: A sulfur containing essential amino acid that is important in many body functions. It is a chelating agent for heavy metals. (it removes heavy metals from the body).
L-Threonine: An essential amino acid occurring naturally in the L-form, which is the active form. It is found in eggs, milk, gelatin, and other proteins.
L-Alanine: A non-essential amino acid that occurs in high levels in its free state in plasma. It is involved in sugar and acid metabolism, increases immunity, and provides energy for muscle tissue, brain, and the central nervous system.
L-Cystine: A non-essential amino acid (your body can produce it as needed)
L-Tyrosine: A non-essential amino acid. It is the precursor of the neurotransmitter epinephrine, of thyroid hormones and of melanin. (Melanin is the pigment that causes darkness in skin and hair).
L-Aspartic Acid: is a non-essential amino acid, commonly occurring in the L-form. It is found in animals and plants, especially in sugar cane and sugar beets. It may be a neurotransmitter.
Overall, some of these ingredients are good for you, some are a waste of money, but I don't see how they could possibly grow your hair.
You can get all of these ingredients from healthy meals - fresh fruit, vegetables, well-balanced, not over-processed foods. There is no miracle here, just a money making gimmick...
If you have any concerns, talk to your medical or naturopathic doctor.
Best of luck!
