Cinnamon Wood
Question: Can you put cinnamon sticks in a wood burning fireplace? I love the fireplace but can't stand the smoke smell? i can't stand the smoke smell that's left in my house. any recommendations on what i can do. thanks!!!
Answer: I feel your pain...The problem I had was the lingering smoke smell stuck around well after the fire in the fireplace was done. This was especially true if i burned popel or cherry wood. The fireplace damper was in bad shape to make matters worse so the fireplace was pretty cold and drafty.
I tried a few things (cinnamon being one of them) to make the smell during the burn be more pleasant, but honestly I didn't find any solution i would recommend besides just burning VERY dry oak, but I didn't have much of it and i have loads of popel, just my luck.
Anyway, I put in a fireplace candelabra that holds six candles. it puts out a pretty good amount of flickery light and I can adjust the scent by buying different scented candles. Personally I prefer soy candles since they are low-soot. To fix the chimney smell we put in a chimney balloon and leave it in. The candles don't seem to effect it at all.
Question: The coves in my living room ceiling are cinnamon color. What color should I paint the walls? The walls and ceiling are cottage white right now. I have some turquoise colored metal scroll artwork in frames and one huge mirror with turquoise colored metal scroll around it. We have hard wood floors that are light colored and the trim is stained that very old stain that has a orange hue to it. I need ideas for the living room walls. The room is very small by the way. Thank you!
Answer: golden yellow
Question: Do cinnamon maple caniets look ok with red oak floors? I purchased cinanamon maple cabinets by Kountry Kitchen witch almost look like a damp natural wood and am placing red oak floor with clear polyurethane and wonder if they should look good? Should I go with red oak cabinets too or will it look too bland cause I hear that a contrast is nice. Also I hear that red oak clear wikll eventually turn yellow and if so then the 2 should combin nicely but what about grain? should they be the same? any tips or advice will be appreciated.
Answer: I think cinnamon cabinets would go great with red oak. It gives it more contrast and you can see a difference over time. I think using both reds is a little too matchy. Good luck!
Question: Can I use a cinnamon stick in the fireplace? while the woods are on? I want some nice smell in the living room. Is it possible?
Answer: You can burn cinnamon sticks in the fire place, but I don't think they will give off a nice cinnamon smell while they burn. They will just burn up. You can simmer them on the stove in a pot of water and they will give off a nice aroma. Or just put them in a jar or attractive dish and set them on a table.

Question: Plant that smells cinnamon? I smell it like every day when i go out side. Theres woods behind my house, if that helps any. I really want to know becasue it just smell that good. Oh, and i live in Ohio.
Answer: There are several possiblities. Most likely is the cinnamon fern in your area or it might be the cinnamon bush. You could make a call to your local agricultural office and ask them. I know that they would be glad to tell you what you are smelling. They love it when folks actually ask for their advise and knowledge. I live in the mountains of NC and we have alot of the same types of plants that you might have there in Ohio. One other possibility might be that it is Carolina Allspice plant. But check with the Ag. Dept in your county or it might just be listed as your county's agricultural extension agency. I will be curious as to what you find out so make sure you edit your question to let us know.
Hope this helps

Question: Scents for a wood fireplace? This is the first time I've had a wood fireplace. I have heard of things you can put in your wood fireplace to burn with the wood to create scents. Like cinnamon or something for christmas. Is this true? If so where can I find them? Thank you for your answers :D (didn't know what category to put this under so I put it under Home & Garden-other)
Answer: We always used to throw our nut shells on the fire as we cracked them open because they are supposed to have a light but pleasant smell when burning. If you're a member of your local freecycle or freegle website you could put a wanted ad for any nut shells in the coming month as traditionally people eat lots of unshelled nuts over Christmas. At the very least it will be a free source of burning matter for your fire! All the best.
Question: Wood u enter a tub full of oatmeal for £35? & if so, what toppings wood u like on that stuff? Strawberry jelly? Crushed cinnamon? Sliced banana? Incidentally, thirty-five pounds is sixty-nine dollars.
Answer: Heck yes! I love oatmeal. And, you can put a little honey on mine.
Question: What do I need to do to remove stain from a wooden bar? Right now it is natural wood and I want to stain it to a more cinnamon/cherry color.
Answer: Removing stain is almost impossible, as the stain has penetrated into the wood itself, unlike paint, which is just on the surface.
Just sandpaper the bar, and restain it, with the darker color, that should do the trick.
Question: do you match drapery color with carpet color or wall color? I have a smoky blue walls with dark wood trim and furniture and the carpet is a cinnamon-brown color. What color drapes should I look for? It will be hard to match the exact light blue wall paint with fabric so should I go with cinnamon, brown or off-white?
Answer: Match your draperies with colors from bedding and accessories. It will bring out the interest in the other fabrics in your room. But if you want to have the draperies blend, match to paint. You can take you fabrics to just about any Home Improvement or hardware store and they can "color match" your paint to your fabrics.
Good Luck!
Question: I need to raise a desk 4 inches for someone in a wheelchair. How do I best to this? The desk is cinnamon cherry so I guess it would be nice to try and match that color as much as possible.
Should I get two 2inch planks or one 4 inch thick planks and screw them together.
How wide should the wood be for it be stable, 3 inches? 4?
Where's the best place to buy it Home Depot, lowes or a lumber store, online, etc.
Thanks for any help and info.
Answer: I think the best looking option might be lifts used to raise your bed when you want to put items under the bed. you can get them at Home Depot, or at Bed Bath and Beyond and they come in many colors. If they are too tall, you could always cut a little off of the leg of the desk and if you need more stability, you could screw the lifts right to the leg of the desk from the bottom.
Question: How can spiritualists make merchandise of the 'souls of men'? Revelation 18
12 The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all thyine wood, and all manner vessels of ivory, and all manner vessels of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble,
13 And cinnamon, and odours, and ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men.
Answer: "Souls of men" qualifies the preceding word "slaves".
Question: What is the best woodsy scent? (Deodorant/Body Wash/Cologne)? I tried out this really nice kind of cinnamon-woods mix and I think it's amazing. The only thing is that it's not meant to be a cologne. I'm just looking for something outdoorsy, something nature-influenced. Oh, and I'd like the stuff to go together too. Not just one cologne, because then I'd have to find something that mixes well with it, and chances are, there isn't much.
Answer: One good woodsy scent that I've used with success is Polo Explorer. A nice rugged scent in a nice bottle, it really captures that earth/wood note. Also, Emporio Armani Diamonds for men is completely different than the rest of the Armani line in that it actually contains that wood note, whereas scents like Attitude and Code + Acqua di Gio are completely lacking of such a note. The Diamonds would possibly mix well with the cinnamon as it is sweet, and a little spicy on the drydown.
Question: Wiccans, and other magical practitioners:What, if any, are the magical properties of walnut oil? I am preparing to season the wood of my hand made wand and it was suggested that I use walnut oil for the base along with infusing...cinnamon, cloves and cardamon. I know the properties of the herbs but cannot find literature pertaining to the magical properties of walnut oil. PLEASE advise. ~M~
Answer: Walnuts allow access to divine energy and is a most excellent oil for conditioning wands and natural woods on the altar. Walnut oil offers protection and healing. The nuts are a great addition to feast cakes and I use them as a meat substitute in chili and enchiladas.
Question: guys, which smell out of these is the best? citrus
vanilla
lavender
cinnamon
wood smoke
the smell of rain
the good type of earth smell like garden dirt
Answer: Wood smoke for me.
Question: So which type of brooms would be an excellent collection to have? I have a cinnamon broom, I was also thinking of having a white birch wood broom, an oak wood broom and hopefully a sandelwood broom.
As you know in every good woman's home there a collection of brooms, not to mention a set of cast iron cauldrons in various sizes : D
Answer: I LOVE my cinnamon broom! I also have a halloween decoration that I made from a branch and some twigs I found in my yard. But mostly I just use the yellow plastic kind for my sweeping pleasure.
Question: Can inhaled smoke from a campfire make you high? So I made a campfire in my backyard the other day (not trying to smoke it, mind you) with just redwood tree needles/wood, but I put some cinnamon incense in there too to see if it would smell like incense. It did!
I accidentally inhaled some of the smoke and felt some mild side effects... and so it made me wonder if chemicals from the smoke can cause a mild feeling of being high, even though it's not tobacco or marijuana. (Maybe it was the incense.)
I didn't really inhale a huge amount of it; it got in my face and accidentally breathed some in, and then I put the fire out.
Ok, I probably just got lightheaded from it; I was curious though.
Answer: No.
Question: What are some good, natural appetite suppressants? I know of a few good suppressants...I chew on cinnamon toothpicks (made from cinnamon wood, they're delicious) and I've heard about hoodia (that **** is too expensive though). Any other ideas?
Also I don't use these to skip meals or anything...usually just at work, because when I'm bored, I just want to eat something, kind of to pass time.
Water and fiber is obvious...smoothies, too many calories, that is essentially what I'm trying to avoid (milk, protein powder, banana, I might as well just eat a small meal).
Answer: citrus fruits like grapefruit, lemons, etc. they are low calorie and low GI. i section them when I bring them home for the market and make a big container full. then when I get a sweet tooth, etc. I'll eat a couple of sections. for me it does the trick sometimes
