Chromium
Question: chromium???? I've heard several people talk about the product for controling cravings an helping with sustained weight loss any ideas
Answer: self control? has anyone heard of it america is so drug crazy!...
Question: How to reduce cadmium and chromium in the body? Is there a way to get cadmium and chromium out of the human body, if excess levels are suspected?
Answer: First of all, consult your doctor with any questions regarding heavy metals poisoning and understand that I am not a doctor in any way.
There is however something called chelation therapy that binds up the metals so they can be safely excreted by your body. Polydentate ligands such as EDTA can bind to many metal atoms and renders them essentially inactive in the body. I believe this is a common treatment for some heavy metals poisoning for both chronic and acute cases, but again I repeat: talk to your doctor before doing this, and if you need it, go to the ER.
Question: How to remove or neutralize hexavalent chromium from electrolysis solution? I'm wanting to know of a chemical or something I can do to remove hexavalent chromium from the solution being used in the production of browns gas (aka HHO). The solution that I'm currently using is distilled water and potassium hydroxide. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.
Answer: Hello my Hydroxy Friend! I too have seen the scare info on the creation of Hexavalent Chromium. I found the exact info you are looking for. The blog is very enlightening!
Here is the link to the blog: http://hydroxygasadventure.blogspot.com/
Feel free to email me. I am heavily into developing cells using tubes right now. Also will be experimenting with Pulse Width Modulation.

Question: What would be the product of electrolysis of a chromium cathode? Hello. I need to know the reaction product of the electrolysis of metallic chromium. Would it be enough to oxidize it to a +6 oxidation state and become chromic acid, or just chromic oxide or perhaps chromium hydroxide? Thank you.
Answer: There is one sovereign rule to remember: Oxidation occurs at the anode. Therefore, reduction occurs at the cathode. If chromium metal is the cathode, then the result is the production and buildup of more chromium at the cathode.
Do not be distracted by anything else. Once you memorize that oxidation occurs at the anode, you will know what pole is (+) and which is (-). You will know in which direction electrons flow over the external circuit, and which direction ions flow in the solution.
Question: What exactly is the difference between Google Chrome and Chromium? I've noticed that Google has two web browsers. Chrome and Chromium. What exactly is the difference? Also, how do I install Chromium on Windows? I've figured out how to install it on Ubuntu by going to the Ubuntu Software Center, but how do you install it on Windows? Thanx to anyone who can help! :)
Answer: There's no difference in the browser. In the sources I will link to a page that will give you detailed instruction on how to install the Chromium OS on Windows XP, you can also do this on Vista and Win7.
Question: What's the difference between Google Chrome and Chromium? Is Chromium a different browser or the same as Chrome?
If they are different, what are the advantages/disadvantages of Chromium over Chrome? Which one is better?
Answer: They are essentially the same thing. Google Chrome is the end product designed for everyday use. Chromium is an opensource project to develop the code that runs Google Chrome.
One thing to note, Google Chrome releases obtained via Google officially should be stable whereas code from the Chromium project is cutting edge and likely to be buggy.
If you want a browsing experience that isn't riddled with bugs, go for Google Chrome. If you enjoy browser crashes and Flash memory and CPU usage being through the roof, you clearly need the bleeding edge untested code direct from the chromium project.
Question: What is the name and formula of the chromium oxide? 2.20 grams of chromium reacts with excess oxygen to give 3.22 grams of a chromium oxide. What is the name and formula of the chromium oxide? Write a balanced equation for the reaction.
Answer: Let x = Mr of chromium oxide
(3.22)/(x) = (2.2)/(52)
x = 66.976
Mr of Chromium is 52.
66.976 - 52 = 14.976
Therefore, I would assume that there is only one oxygen as 14.976 is close to the Mr of oxygen which is 16.
2Cr + O2 --> 2CrO
Charge of chromium in this case would be 2+, formula of chromium (II) oxide is CrO.
I hope I'm correct, I used the mol= mass/Mr formula.
Question: How does chromium protect steel from corrosion? After the 1930s, chromium replaced nickel for corrosion resistance and appearance on car bumpers and trim...these old bumpers are still just as shiny as ever...how does the chromium protect the steel from corrosion?
Answer: The chromium is electroplated to the base steel. Chromium doesn't oxidize anywhere as easily as steel and is much harder and with a higher boiling point than iron.
Chromium is passivated by oxygen, forming a thin protective oxide surface layer. Passivation is the process of making a material "passive" in relation to another material prior to using the materials together. This layer is a structure only a few atoms thick and is very dense, preventing diffusion of oxygen into the underlying material. (In iron or plain carbon steels the oxygen migrates into the underlying material, causing rust.)
Question: How long will it take to electroplate metal chromium? Chromium metal can be electroplated from an acidic solution of CrO3. How many seconds will it take to plate 1.60g of chromium using a current of 9.87 A?
I think i know the basics to this question, i need to know is how many electrons are involved in this process? Im assuming i need to balance a redox reaction? I need to understand this! Thanks a million
Answer: You are reducing CrO3 (Cr+6) to metallic chromium (Cr zero) so you need 6 e- per Cr or 6F of electricity per mole Cr.
Question: How is Chromium commonly found in nature? I know the primary form of Chromium (Chromium+3) is usually found in a complex compound with other minerals such as oxygen or chlorine... is it in a mineral? (if so, which minerals)?
What other forms of chromium are usually found in nature?
Answer: Natural emissions from windblown dust and volcanoes
Question: What acid would react with chromium to produce chromium chloride? What gas would also be produced during this reaction?
and
Why would it be dangerous for workers in a chromium chloride plant to smoke near to the reaction vessel?
Answer: Hydrochloric acid would react with chromium to produce chromium chloride:
Cr + HCl ---> CrCl + H2
From the equation above, you can see that hydrogen gas and chromium chloride is produced as the by-products.
Hydrogen gas is a very reactive gas, it might cause explosion. Thus it is dangerous for workers in a chromium chloride plant to smoke near to the reaction vessel.
Question: How is Chromium used in industry or business? Could you give several examples for how Chromium is used to in everyday life, and business?
Answer: In industry it is used a lot on sliding surfaces to reduce friction and wear. Also to reduce oxidation [rusting]
&
in the automotive and Truck industry it is used on bumpers, wheels, grills, side stripping, Around lights. And on large trucks their exhaust stacks and external air cleaners as well.
Mainly for looks and to prevent rust.
&
In homes it is used on everything from refrigerator doors to stove doors to blenders to toasters to cafe makers for looks as well as ease of up keep.
&
On hand tools it is used to make screw drivers wrenches because of the hardness of Chromium steel
Question: How to surf using a proxy in Chromium? I have Chromium running on Ubuntu 9.04 and cannot access Youtube and multiple other sites because the Tukish government has blocked them. I am tired of having to copy and paste the URL into a proxy and have stupid ads and pop-ups come up all over the place. How do i use the Google Chrome Proxy setting in Options->Under the hood to browse anonymously?
Answer: The features in Chrome will not bypass blocks set up by the ISP and will not hide you from the ISP knowing what web sites you are trying to access. All privacy mode does is to prevent the cookies and other tracking information from being stored on your computer so web sites can't see them.
If you want to bypass all blocks and have a private encrypted connection out of Turkey you need a personal vpn to unblock web sites. The vpn will tunnel all of your traffic to the US, Europe or Canada (your choice) and allow access to everything. http://www.surfbouncer.com
Question: What will happen if you take too much Chromium Picolinate? Is it dangerous to take more than 1 Chromimum Picolinate pill per day? For those who don't know what Chromium Picolinate is it helps break down sugar, and fat more easily. Anyway, will it do harm to anything if you take more than one rather than two like directed on the bottle? Just trying to lose the fat quicker along with working out like I've been doing and eating low sugar foods.
Answer: I took it for quite sometime, but did not find that it did anything to help with weight loss.
Fat is NOT going to come off quickly. Don't believe any of the many silly ads and commercial about products that "burn fat", they don't... what they do is just for the seller who cleans out your wallet!
Question: Where can you buy a solid sample of chromium? I need a sample of chromium in its solid state by the end of the week; I live in St. Petersburg, Florida. I am doing a research project on it. So where can you buy chromium, or in general transition metals?
Answer: Try this
http://www.dealsshop.net/index.php?k=chr…
Question: What is the word equation for chromium nitrate? I have to find two compounds that form chromium nitrate.
Answer: Chromium(III) chloride + silver nitrate ===> chromium(III) nitrate + silver chloride(precipitate). Chromium(III) nitrate is also called chromic nitrate.
Question: What is the difference between Chrome and Chromium? Well it's pretty much just that. Is there really a difference or does Chromium just have a cooler name/logo? Oh and if you couldn't tell I'm talking about the Google web browsers.
Answer: Chromium is Googles open source code that Chrome is made of, the reason why its open source (which means anyone can download and edit it) is so web browsing gets easier and faster. Just like what Firefox did.
Chrome is Googles web browswer made from the Chromium code. Its really good and fast. I used to use firefox, but chrome is just newer and sleeker.
hope this helped
Question: What are the differences in chromium supplements? My Dr. has placed me on chromium. Not picolinate or any of the other chromiums. just plain old chromium. Is there a difference in the chromiums? I was just reading chromium picolinate is carcenogenic. True? Thanks in advance.
Answer: Chromium is a widely used supplement. Estimated sales to consumers were $85 million in 2002, representing 5.6% of the total mineral-supplement market [55]. Chromium is sold as a single-ingredient supplement as well as in combination formulas, particularly those marketed for weight loss and performance enhancement. Supplement doses typically range from 50 to 200 mcg.
The safety and efficacy of chromium supplements need more investigation. Please consult with a doctor or other trained healthcare professional before taking any dietary supplements.
Chromium supplements are available as chromium chloride, chromium nicotinate, chromium picolinate, high-chromium yeast, and chromium citrate. Chromium chloride in particular appears to have poor bioavailability. However, given the limited data on chromium absorption in humans, it is not clear which forms are best to take.
Question: What is the maximum weight of metallic chromium that can be produced? For the thermite reaction between chromium III oxide and aluminum metal, producing chromium metal and aluminum oxide, what is the maximum weight of metallic chromium that can be produced by reacting 38 grams of Cr2O3 with 9 grams of metallic aluminum?
Answer: Cr2O3 + 2 Al = 2 Cr + Al2O3
moles Cr2O3 = 38 g/151.99 g/mol=0.25
moles Al = 9 g / 26.9815 g/mol= 0.33
the ratio between Cr2O3 and Al is 1 : 2
Al is the limiting reactant ( 0.25 x 2 = 0.500 moles of Al are required)
the ratio between Al and Cr is 2 : 2
moles Cr = 0.33
mass Cr = 0.33 mol x 52 g/mol=17 g
Question: Why do chromium carbides form on the grain boundaries in stainless steels? I'm looking at sensitisation/sensitization right now, and I haven't yet found out why the chromium carbides tend to form on the grain boundaries rather than elsewhere in the grains. Can anyone tell me why (and possibly provide references)?
Many thanks
[asrobs] then why answer?
Answer: Since you give no details of circumstance it's difficult to be specific. If it's important contact me on this site.Generally two things apply. One is that the steel is operated at high temperatures in a carbon rich environment. In this case carbon will diffuse into the steel along grain boundaries much more rapidly than it will through the body of the grain, and then form chromium carbide rather than iron carbide. Boundary diffusion is more rapid because each grain is a crystal with a particular orientation in space so the boundary's are regions with a lot of defects and to some extent resemble liquid(I wouldnt take that argument too far).As the carbide forms the adjacent region gets poorer in Chromium and is replaced with chromium diffusing from the grain interior;so the problem spreads. The second case relates to the relative interfacial energies of Alloy/Alloy grain boundaries and Alloy/carbide boundaries.
